DS 4.15 still has very long shutdown

Anyone else notice that DS 4.15 has not reduced the shutdown time for the program (including what is going on in the background) compared to DS 4.14?

  • Have you checked the log file to see what stages are taking the time? Clearing memory if there was a morph-heavy figure loaded is still going to take a while, it's the inactive hang that should have been addressed.

By the "inactive hang", do you mean the fact that DS is still open in the background (as can be seen in the Task Manager in Windows)? If so, then that is still a problem. DS disappears from the open windows when closed but it is still active for quite a long time. This has been commented on previously in the forum. Iray appears to have a memory leak which means that after rendering a complex scene you need to close DS to avoid it slowing right down. This means closing DS and restarting it regularly. The startup procedure can also take a long time for a complex scene but the additional wait for DS to actually really close down so that you can restart it is very annoying.

I mean DS is sitting in the process list with 0% activity. if it has activity (usually 100/core count  %) then that is probably it doing housekeeping before closing, and is expected.

So how long should this housekeeping take? I understand that the answer will depend on the size of the scene being closed and the speed of the computer. However, I recall that in earlier versions of DS this would take only a few seconds and that was with a slower computer than I have now. What is DS doing that takes so long?

Unhooking all the morphs and deleting their links is, I think, the big thing - it's more down to the complexity of the content loaded than its absolute size, closing down after having a fully-loaded Genesis 8 female loaded takes longer than other figures or environments. Because it's morphs and links it will also get slower over time, as you add more content.

There is a thread on that subject in Product Suggestions: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/464086/how-about-a-morph-tab-to-better-manage-morphs-for-characters#latest

Is there another quick way of removing or unlinking all unused morphs on a figure once you are satisfied with it?
