On the first pic of this thread, what would make it more realistic, is grass on the grass, instead of a green noise texture. It's quick to do grass with a hair generator on your plane. Or do a surface duplicator with one grass model.
The house could be a tad blurred, 3-4 points only, to give depth to the image.
Always use a key-light on your main character(s). A keylight is a spot light behind/side of your model, that points to the shoulder/head area, or the entire side if full body, that will make just a little outline of light around your character, making it stand out from the background. 50% intensity light, with a slight color tint. If your scene used only white light, put a tad of orange in your light. Usually lightbulbs make yellow-orange keylighting on us. An example of keylighitng on characters can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXPYCmI-PGs. Notice the small lighting on the right of every character. Sometimes blueish, sometimes orangish.
Nice concept. Well done in general. The quality is consistent, make it look good.
Yeah, that was my first render, and I didn't have grass that I could use. Thanks for the light tips. Sickleyield gave me similar advice, but it never seemed to pan out for me.
