Where do I start?

I have never used Daz Studio before.
I'm a Poser user, but haven't used that for some 10 years either.
So, I installed DS, and quite frankly... the documentation leaves a lot (everything) to be desired.
The Help links are dead links. The wiki doesn't exist. So... where is a new user supposed to find any kind of explanation of what does what, what means what?
What do those yellow scroll corners mean? I have the item with and without, but ZERO explanation of what it is/means/does.
So... I'm lost.
IS there anywhere to look stuff up?

P.S. I guess all my old RuntimeDNA stuff is lost, as I didn't realize there had been a merger. :/

  • What do you mean that the documentation doesn't exist? I mean...

    Daz Studio [Documentation Center] (daz3d.com)

... here you can find the manual and reference manual, and all I did was follow the 'help' link in the top menu. And that's not even mentioning the dozens of youtube videos:

daz studio getting started - YouTube

Where do you start? I'd say by by dragging something from the smart contents pane into the viewport, positioning it and then hitting render to see what happens next ;)

    Thanks for the link.
Alas the link from the help file in my Daz Studio is dead. That's what I mean. That's where I look for up to date info, and it got me to a "Page doesn't exist" page on a wiki.

Not keen on Youtube tutorials for software. If I want to know what X does, I want to be able to look it up -- not sit through 15hrs of video hoping my question will be answered. (And it usually isn't... lol)

I look up, read, and try. That's how I learn. :)

Right now I mostly have interface questions, going around doing trial and error. It's not very productive. :P

And I still don't know what this icon in the corner of the screenshot means / does. (I'm guessing it's some kind of script?)
Dragging it in the scene does... nothing.
No mention of it that I can find in the "Reference" of the UI.
So... what is it? If it does nothing, then why is it there?

I agree that the help hasn't been working quite right, it seems. Most every search I do, I get this notice:

This page exists within the Old ArtZone Wiki section of this site. Read the information presented on the linked page to better understand the significance of this fact.

That means that there is a native Daz Studio file with the same name as the Poser file in the same folder - when you double-click DS will load the native file isntead of the Poser file. It's  way of having a single location for both file types, so the user doesn't have to worry which is which. In practice these will almost certainly be 3Delight materials, not Iray.

In some cases this will be extended so that a prop or figure file will load the content and apply the DS version of the default materials.

    Ah ok. Thanks Richard.
Since the one with the yellow icon didn't do anything, I presume that's the Poser file?
And for those who say that the links work: This is what I get when I click on "User Guide".
Very helpful indeed. I don't even get pointed to anywhere, just "oops".
