Michael 4 install problem
Hi all,
I've bought and downloaded the Michael 4 base starter from Daz but when I try to load it up I get a message saying "The Michael 4 support folder could not be found".
Can any one help me with this?
It appears as an actor in the figures menu and all seems good in the content library so what haven't I done this time?
Thanks in advance,
G

OK, this is usually because you have more than one "library" mapped in DS and the first in the list has some, but not all M4 things in the Runtime/libraries/!DAZ directory, usually some morphs or such that has ended up there.
So, to solve this: Check the directory mentioned above in all the mapped Library folders and either put the correct one as the first directory in the list, or remove the !DAZ folder from the one that is first and that contains a non complete M4, or merge them into one if you know what you're doing.
Hi Totte,
Thanks for the fast response.
The install manager is pointed at the users/public/documents/mydaz3dlibrary as usual.
This is the directory that is now at the top of the three directories listed in the Daz content directory manager.
The others being the user/named directory and the programme files/Daz directory in the order.
I uninstalled all the M4 files and then re-installed them under these conditions and I still have the same message.
Unlike the other "actors" listed under my figures, the M4 icon has a script symbol in the top left corner.
Do you know where the folder containg this script should be and where it should be relevant to the rest of the folders?
Thanks again,
G
Did you check Runtime/libraries/!DAZ in all those three direcrtories?
Your answer lies there...
And the script-icon just means that there is a .ds/.dsa material file in the same directory as the .cr2 file so that DAZ Studio can load DS materials for the item.
The !DAZ folder appears in the users/public...runtime/libraries folder but runtime doesn't appear in the content management list between props and people. Is that what's in the wrong place? Should !DAZ be somewhere else? In people maybe?
TIA

Runtime is the old poser structure, have you setup you "poser" content to point to the same directory in DS?
Even though you don't use Poser DS still needs to have that setup.
Quick History lesson:
Poser had a directory named Runtime, in which all Poser files were placed.
DAZ Studio is a program that in the beginning could read and use Poser Content, but needed its own files, so those were place in the same directory as Runtime, so DS could find Runtime. Content made only for DAZ Studio still uses Runtime/Textures for texture maps, mostly because Textures are the big files and having them in two places would just waste disk space if you had both Poser and DS content installed.
Thank you for that... Lightbulb!
All sorted now and thank you again.

That's right — the files you can see in D|S in the Content tabs (Content Library or Smart Content) include pointers to object and morph data files and texture files that are installed in "invisible" folders, one of which is the Runtime folder itself. You can see the Poser Library folders that are inside the Runtime folder, when you go to the Content Library tab and open Poser Formats. These files can't be seen directly in D|S because you never need direct access to them. The !DAZ folder is in this category; most of the files here are morph data which is automatically loaded by other files.
