After almost a year using Daz, I still don't know how to see object size!

Yeah, I'm that silly. And I just realise it this morning when I try to adjust the size of simple object. Is there any way to see how long of each object side in Daz?

are you after real world measurements? If so you can't in DS without an extra product http://www.daz3d.com/measure-metrics-for-daz-studio

Thank you for your reply, Szark. I just want to see the ratio of an object. For example, I'm trying to create a book object which I've got in my library. I want something like 2:3 or so. Can I see width and length info?

Well we only have Scale Parameters in the Parameters Pane when the object is selected and it is only a Percentage.

Are you referring to a render size? If so, look under Render>Render Settings. You can enter your own dimensions, or select from one of the presets.

Another crude but inexpensive measuring technique is to use a primitive plane (perhaps textured with a grid) of known size, e.g., one meter, placed behind the object to be measured, in a non-perspective view like Front View. If you scale the plane to match your object, you know the object's measurement. For example, if scaling a 1m plane matches your object when it is scaled to .75, then you know the object is 75cm in that dimension.

now that is an awesome idea...why didn't I think of that...slaps head numerous times.

I do that all the time. I'll make a one-inch and a separate one-foot cube primitive. then I'll scale them to the needed size if necessary.

Also, for an eight-foot plane, there is this gem of a texture... It's free.

I just have yet to pack it, and put it up on sharecg, lol.

    (edit)
One of these days, I'll re tile that patron to make a metric one, like 10-squar per inch graph paper.
    (edit 2)
in fact, I'll do that now. It is unfair to ask people that grew up with the metric system, to only have a "British Imperial" measuring wall. I will guarantee it up there in that thread within a week's time.

There's a free script called SizeOf for Daz Studio. Click on any object and it tells you its dimensions - width/height/depth.

Unfortunately, the only link I have for it is on the old forum and I'm not sure if that can still be accessed. I think you have to modify the link. Someone else may know how to do that, so here's the link.

V2 also dose the other system as well. About to give it a try.

I'm still finishing that metric wall. It's just to cool looking not to.

All credit to maclean as he jogged my memory. :) I love Casual's scripts, especially his DS to Blender script. Very cool stuff and all for free. Casual is one generous person, that should be shouted from the roof tops IMHO.

Thanks Szark. Glad someone knew how to get to the scripts.

I use SizeOf so often, I made a toolbar icon for it. Very useful script indeed.
