Why is my hair sticking up?

Hello,

I am having issues with two hairs which I downloaded where they are not laying flat against the model, but are instead sticking up and straight out, as if in layer set-up?  I've tried the preset poses with no success, as well as sliders.  I'll post some photo's as an example, but I could really use some help trying to figure out how to get that hair to set appropriately.  Thanks all in advance!

    You didn't mention what hair it is, but my guess is it is a dForce hair, so in order to get it to lay nicely you have to run a simulation.

    Oh yes, they are indeed.  I had no idea what that is and now I have to learn a whole new way of rendering.  >.o  Thank you.
