Transfering scenes from one to another computer

Hopefully this is the right place for this question:

I'm running DAZ on different computers, but I install (if not done by the DAZ-Install-Manager) all things to the same location.
But: If I save one sub scene (or entire scene) on one computer, copy this file to the other computer and try to open it there, it may happen, that some objects (e.g. Hair) appear as block.
In the log file I see an error, that a file could not be loaded correctly, but it exist on both computers on the same location.

Is there a better way to save a scene / sub scene, so that it's possible to import it to another DAZ-Environment?

If the file exists on both computers the issue could be that you don't have the content directories set up correctly on one of them. If you take screen shot of the Content Directory Manager on both systems, with everything under Current expanded (Edit>Preferences>Content Library, click the Content Directory manager button) we may be able to spot the issue. The other possibility is that you are using imported content and not copying across the AutoConverted or AutoAdapted folders from the Data folder, though if the original files are in the same place on both machines DS should be able to cope.

That is the right way to do it, but there's something extra. The scene file is not the whole scene; all it contains is object position, morph and texture settings (plus other stuff such as animation, camera and lights settings, etc). The actual object, morph and texture files are saved in the /data/ folder, and the /Runtime/Textures/ folder, with pointer references in the scene file. The usual culprit in these cases is the /data/ folder, if this is not identical on both computers, then you can't use a scene file on both computers, because the pointers are to /data/ files that only exist on one computer.

I have this setup and does that all the time. I have three machines running DS, two desktops (my monsters) and a laptop.

I often set a scene up on one machine save it and open it from another machine to render (specially when in the cottage with the laptop).

There are a few important things to keep in mind doing this:

    (a) The most important of them all. Never ever use anything that is in the .daz format (the old DAZ Studio format). it will break, not every item but it will break. In that case use the Poser .cr2 and apply the DS .ds materials instead.

    (b) Stay away from LIE stuff as LIE saves the tempfiles locally in the DS you are working on, and when you move the .duf to another machine, LIE wont find them. You can find them and put them in the right place, but this is a breaker.

    (c) Always save as .duf. It's the default format for newer DAZ Studio but some might use .daz out of old habit.

    (d) Keep all content libraries up to date and current.

    (e) There is no pojnt e, you're done.

Doing this you will be good to go.
