CMS
Making me nuts... lol it seems that it will not recognize anything that is not loaded through the Install manager. I can open the files I installed manually, but once in the program they will not save, and reload. The files show up in my content, but daz will not open them. It was old content so I thought that was the problem the files were just to old to work with 4.6.
So plan B, I copied and 'tweaked' some templates from another file, basically just colorized and made some minor changes to them to match the look I am going for. I renamed everything by adding the word mod after the file name. Renamed my copied file to match then loaded them all into my user/public library and can not get them to load either??
Can some one point me to tutorial on how to load content manually into daz so it will open up in the program??? I have copied and pasted everything into my public library folder, the files appear in my content manager, but will not open... I click on them and nothing happens?? I have checked and rechecked the files everything seems to be in the right folder.
If I close daz then go to my public folder and open the files they open in daz and work, all the features are there, and they work the way they are supposed to. I have tried saving them as scenes, properties, materials etc... nothing works when I try to open the files, after saving them they will not load from within the program, have to close daz and open the files from my public file. What have I done wrong??

CMS is not needed to use Studio, it is only for Smart Content, Categories, Products and Search. Any file that is properly installed or saved to your library can be seen and opened from within the Content Library tab. A more complete and methodical explanation to the problem you are having is need. What files did you move? Where did you move them to?
After going without CMS yet again for a while I reinstalled DS once again and got it working once more
For how long I do not know
It just one day decides it will no longer work
Can be weeks can be days
But it will one day fail again
Cannot be started manually only fix reinstall DAZ Studio yet again

vahdimae - most freebie content, and content from other stores, does not have metadata and so will not appear anywhere but in the Content Library, under Poser Formats or DAZ Studio formats as the case may be. You can categorise and make Smart content by dragging and droping from the Content Library pane to the destination you want. When saved files or new content fails to load what happens - do you get an error? A blocky figure? Nothing?
No everything loads fine
From my content library
CMS just stops running so no smart content
And cannot be restarted
Even shutting down and restarting PC
Or going to the program file itself
Until DS gets uninstalled and reinstalled
I do wonder if my antivirus is removing something from it
Nothing it does nothing, no error messages, no wait icon nothing, just a blank screen. Sometimes after I have loaded and saved a file, I will get an error message that the file can not be loaded, but most of the time I get nothing just a blank screen.
Just drag and drop, I will try that thank you :) I have been trying to set them up as products and copying and pasting the files into the product I set up... does not work... lol.
Were you saving Scenes (which is what you get from plain File>Save), or soemthing from the File>Save as menu? Presets are settings, not (mostly) items so they won't load anything on their own.
I tried them all, none of them worked. The files show up in my content tab in daz, however when I click on the icons nothing happens. I tried the drag and drop method you suggested no luck the files do not show up in the smart content or anywhere else I drag them to. I have tried creating a product for the files, copying and pasting them into the prodcut file, the content shows up but will not load.
I can load most of the files by shutting down daz, going to my public/runtime file cliking on the file I wnat to open and using 'open with' option and they open in daz, all the adjustments etc work. However I can not seem to save the file, nor can I change the materials or properties. The file will save but when I try to load it up it will not load no matter which format/settings I have saved it in.
This is what I am trying to do. I have two characters, they need, hair, clothes and makeup.... I thought since I could not get the old content to load that I could use the exsisting templates for the characters, pull them into my graphic program make the changes and then reload the modified files in my daz 3d/public library/runtime folder ... no luck the files will not open just like the others I have manually installed. I am obviously not doing something right but can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
Native DAZ Studio files should not be in the Runtime folder - and should not be showing in the content pane if they are. Could you go to Edit>Preferences>Content Library, click the Content Directory Manager button, expand all the entries under "Current" and post a screen shot please. Also, please post a screenshot of the Content Library showing some of the files that won't open.
Ok have issues with the screen shot.... Windows8 .. used to be you clicked print screen and then saved as preferred format.... not working. Will have to look up how to print screen in Windows8.
Right now 5 showing up
Users/My Name/Documents/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/Runtime
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/People
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/data
Ok trying to make sure I understand what 'Native' content means, basically any content that I have purchased from a Private artist is NOT supposed to be showing up in my content library???
Just realized this info might be helpful... I am running the 32bit version of 4.6 public build
Get rid of these 3, they serve no useful purpose:
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/Runtime
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/People
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/data
they are already covered by Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library, there is no need at all to have the path to sub-folders listed, just the main library folder. DS will pick up all the rest from there, including the Runtime folder which is used for Poser Formats.
Do you have this Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library, usnder Poser Formats as well?
All content will appear in the Content Library pane no matter where it was bought from, as long as it is installed into the correct folders.
Remove the last three in your list. They are creating nested libraries which confuses the program. The remaining two should be list both under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats. Content from others will show up in Content Library tab if they are installed properly. For content not from DAZ I suggest making and adding new libraries to install them in to, such as; Public/Documents/3D Freebies .
'Native' content means content that is in a format native to DAZ Studio (for example, a .duf file), as opposed to content that is in some other format (poser format file extensions for example.)
I believe what Richard meant was that DAZ Studio native content does not make use of a folder actually called runtime (that's used by poser content you see in DAZ Studio), so if your DAZ Studio native content files were within the runtime folder, something has been saved in the wrong folder.
All content, if correctly designed and mapped, should show up in your content library in the appropriate place. (Note that there are different ways to view the data, so you wouldn't see content with no metadata in the smart content, you wouldn't see non-daz products in the product name category, etc.)
For example, in your provided paths, "Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/Runtime" would not contain DAZ Studio native content, but the following folders WOULD contain native content:
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/People
Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library/data
concerning the screenshot, I don't have Windows 8, but in 7 and earlier you want to press the control or alt key at the same time as the printscreen key. ( gets the entire desktop in the screenshot, gets just the current window).
I'm pretty sure that Windows 8 still has the Snipping Tool, which allows you to select part of the screen to take an image of and save it to disc.
Thank You. Will search the runtime folder, if I find one of the above three file types in the runtime folder where should I move them to?
You should not have any of these files in the Runtime folder anyway, but if you do have, move them out of the runtime folder, and into a folder inside My DAZ 3D Library. Which folder, will depend on what they are used for, so I would suggest creating a new folder inside the library called 'DS Files' or some name that you will recognise, and then you will be able to see them in the Content Library pane like any other DAZ Studio files.
Just a note, if there are DS-format files AND Poser-format files with the same name under a Runtime folder, that's okay -- DS will display the Poser file with a scroll in the upper left corner of the icon, meaning that it will use the DS-format file instead. You only need to move DS-format files out of Runtime if they don't have matching Poser-format files.
Thanks Mike, I had forgotten about them.
Problem solved.. Thank you for your help... I did not like poser much... so when I installed stuff I skipped over quite a few of the poser files.... Dumb I did not realize daz would need the poser info to run files. Once I installed the missing files everything seems to be working... Thank you all for your help.
I am new to daz and the whole 3d modeling world... so lots of silly questions... I was wondering if there is a way that I could convert for example a premade clothing item in Daz, subdivide it and alter the divisions seperately like you do when making clothing items in blender
