Daz DIM - Questions I have not found an answer for

First of all, I am really happy enjoying DAZ3D; the first 3D software I have used and I am quite impressed with the quality and all the functions, even though I have not spent all the time I want playing with the software.

I am not sure if all of you do this, but once I started playing with DAZ3D I decided to download a bunch of addons, clothing, characters, props, scenes, etc... I used DIM to install everything but I am a little confused now.

Am I supposed to delete all the packages after installation?

As an additional note, I always keep copies of the files, but I am not sure if everything is supposed to stay in the download folder on DIM.

Can you help?

If I may... one more question.

Somehow I ended up with 2 different DAZ3D folders under "Documents" - One of them leads to Install Manager, and the other one leads me to Studio/My Library (items I have saved)

Is that normal? two different folders sharing the same name going to different places??

Thanks for all you help

No you do not have to delete the packages! Better idea is to save a copy over to another storage device ;-)

The 2 different folders - yes that happened over here too and I would think it best to leave them as they are. If DIM is finding them and D/S is finding its stuff ... all is well ;-)

It isn't required, but many people find it helpful to use the "My DAZ 3D Library" location just for items installed with DIM and the "My Library" location for everything else.

Once you've installed an item you can delete it from the downloads folder or move it to your backup location.

    Thanks for your replies!

I am new at this 3D world thing and I am enjoying it too much, so much that I can't even concentrate on one topic in particular, I am flopping between tutorials left and right, its awesome!

I wasn't sure if I had to delete those files after install, so I appreciate your input on that matter.
I do however, learnt to keep backup copies of the files I download/purchase, just in case. I am covered on that area.

Thanks again for your answers, you might see me around quite a bit around this area

I hope someone is still watching this post...

    I have a problem, I think

Here is the deal, I have managed to buy everything I think I could use, around 60GB of content and all of it was installed without a problem, but... I decided to move my DAZ Installer Download folder to an external hard drive and now the DIM says that all the 60gb are Ready to Install. The thing is, all of my content is already on My DAZ folder...

    How do I fix this?
I am still getting items from the DAZ store and other vendors and I don't want to have to re install items already on my computer

Did you move the whole DAZ 3D folder from your Public Documents folder? The Manifests folder in there is where DIM lists what it has installed, either move it back (leaving the Downloads folder where it is) or edit the C:\Users\You\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts\Account.ini file to set the

    OverrideManifestDir=

line to point to your moved location (using /s to sepaarte folders).

I moved only the InstallManager folder, not my personal DAZ Directory

For some reason my Manifests folder is gone, nowhere to be found.

A fresh install might be what I need, just to make sure

    Let the fun begin...

Thanks for your reply Richard, I shall come begging for help if I mess this up

Sorry, I meant the whole Install Manager folder rather than the installed content.

I actually created several fresh install folders when I first installed DIM (Genesis, V4/M4, V3/M3, Past, Present, Future, etc...) other than a few ovelapping products, I find this a lot easier to find what I'm looking for and prevents the will this shirt work with this figure? problem. I then started cleaning out the old folders and made folders for non-DIM stuff.

    Your mileage may vary...

OK, it took me a while to re install everything but I am done.. finally.

The only problem is that every time I open DIM it goes to the process of scanning every item, it gets annoying if you have a lot of content

    Thanks for your replies, though!
