uhh,,, i already know how to do that. i'm asking if it can be done with the DAZ install manager by searching my pc for the zip/rar files and extracting them with the program

No, you have to install them manually. The DIM only lets you download and install content you have bought in the DAZ store. Every other content has to be installed manually.

The main problem being, items purchased and downloaded in .zip format from other stores don't have the attendant .dsx metadata file necessary for DIM to install it.

    Are you referring to "Manifest.dsx"?

Puzzling over something similar here. As mentioned elsewhere, steep learning curve. Only managed to manually install Wilmap stuff (and ArcheopteryxDR), and now I'm puzzling over back up zips of stuff about to be yanked from the store.

No the problem is that DIM can't access data from non DAZ 3D stores to add them to the DIM

Anything that you have already bought from DAZ 3D will stay in your product library, should you need to redownload it, whether or not it is still active in the store.

I assumed the "data" DIM needs to access is in the Manifest.dsx file contained in each .zip file, as zarcondeegrissom mentioned. I also thought the .dsx files with the same name as the products that are downloaded (or created) at the time you download each item are for installation purposes.

Not all product .zips contain a "data" folder, which also contains a .dsx file, so where exactly does DIM get the necessary data from? Is it on the DAZ server? Curious minds want to know.

The 'data' folder, will only be found in DAZ Studio format items. The 'data' folder should not have a .DSX file in it.

The ones without a 'data' folder are in Poser format, and use the Runtime/Geometries folder instead. The older dot DAZ files, needed the data folder to get the geometry information from, but the new DUF format does not need geometry info any more, but I think it still needs the data folder for UV info (at least that is my understanding)

The new version .duf files do still need the D|S-format geometry files in the /data/ folder, it's just that the subfolder names are (finally!) arranged in a fairly logical order of /data//<objectname>/ instead of individual subfolders for each object in the scene as it's done in earlier D|S versions. I have separate content folders for D|S3 and D|S4 content, and the D|S4 /data/ folder is a lot less chaotic-looking.
