Smart content

I can't get my smart content folder to work! It shows I have no content in the folder!
When I go to the content folder and right mouse click it and try to send it to the smart content folder it appears in the smart content pane but it doesn't stay there! It was working before but I recently did a pc cleaning on my computer and it started doing this ever since!
Can someone help me get all my content back into the smart content file?

This probably means the content management data base is not running or has become corrupted.

First what version of DAZ Studio are you running?

If it is the most recent version have you upgraded to the PostgreSQL?

That sounds like your CMS is not running.

Are you running DAZ 4.6.3.52? (Help -> About DAZ Studio...)

Do you know if you are running new PostgreSQL data base or the older Valentina data base.

If you are not sure, do Help -> Troubleshooting -> View Log File...

Look through the message for something that looks like:

Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit

That is what you will see if you are using the new PostgreSQL.

I think if you are running an older release than 4.6.3.52 it may only support Valentina.

Go to the top of the page to My Account > Product Library, and find DAZ Studio in the list, that should allow you to download the latest version.

Do you use the DAZ Install Manager (DIM), that will install it for you.

If your CMS is not running, then you can start it by going to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D, and you will see Content Management Servive in the list.

You are not really giving any useful information here.

Did you find CMS in the All Programs area, and did you try to start it?
What version number does it say you are running in Help > About DAZ Studio?
How did you install it, using DIM or by yourself?

The Content Management Service MUST be running, or you wont have any Smart Content (assuming that you did not install PostgreSQL).
Did you look in Task Manager under Processes for CMS to see if it is running?

I used the installmanager to install the latest version of daz studio!
When I pulled up the help menu I didn't see any thing that says CMS at all!
I am very computer illiterate I need step by step directions on how to get this CMS thing!

I am assuming that you are using Windows?

Go to the Start button on the bottom task bar. Click on it, select All Programs.

In the list that pops up, select the folder marked DAZ 3D, then look for Content Management Service. Inside there, there should be an option to 'Start CMS'

    Do you see that?

Is it part of the Beta program? I'm installing it right now hopefully that will do it!

Sorry for the late reply, I had to go to bed, it was 1:00 am here :)

When you say the start button at the bottom of the task bar are you talking about daz studio or daz installer?

Neither, in the Windows desktop screen.

I did find something in my product library in my account online that shows CMS sql inactive! I tried to install it through the installer and it doesn’t show anything to install!

CMS comes as part of the main DS installation, and you don't need to download anything, but to install the latest version, you need to find the uninstaller for CMS in Windows > Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D, and uninstall it first BEFORE you reinstall DAZ Studio.

Is it part of the Beta program? I’m installing it right now hopefully that will do it!

CMS is the old system that DAZ Studio used to access the Valentina database files. It is not a Beta product. If you use Carrara, and also use the Smart Content inside that application, you would need to keep CMS, otherwise you can use the newer PostgreSQL.

The last version of DAZ Studio, the one you downloaded, has the option to use PostgreSQL instead of using CMS/Valentina, and it seems to work much better inside Studio than Valentina did. I would recommend that you install it instead, you will probably have much less bother with it.

You need to look for 'PostgreSQL CMS 9.3.4 ' in the DAZ Install Manager, and also ''PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion '. Installing both of these files will install the latest database files for you, and do the conversion as well. You can still use the Content Library pane to load any content that you have, whether CMS is running or not. If it is not visible, inside DAZ Studio, go to Window > Panes(Tabs) > Content Library, and it should appear. You can then dock it anywhere. Please let me know how you are getting on with this.

If I uninstall daz studio won't I loose all of my content? Or am I suppose to uninstall daz installer?
In my product list in my account on line there is content that shows the big blue elephant itsentitled Postgre SQL CMS BETA (inactive)

    No, definitely not!

When you install the latest version of DAZ Studio, it always uninstalls the previous one anyway, and it does not affect the content in any way.

It is CMS that you need to uninstall anyway, DAZ Studio will take care of itself. Are you going to reinstall DS to use the new PostgreSQL databases?

I installed the latest version of daz studio yesterday and it didn't change anything! I don't know how to get to the PostgreSQL CMS database to install it or uninstall it!
I did as you suggested earlier inside Daz studio I clicked on Windows/pane tabs/ content and it just took me to the content library. I did the same thing and clicked on smart content and it just took me to the smart content library which nothing was in it.

The above is from my previous post. Load the DAZ Install Manager (DIM), and look for the above files, and allow DIM to install them for you.

I was just telling you where to find the Content Library pane in case you didn't know, it was not a fix for your problem, but as I explained. ALL of your content should appear in the Content Library pane anyway, it doesn't need or use CMS to display your content (unlike Smart Content)

Are you saying that you have no content in the Content Library pane either?

Praise God! Success at last! I found it in the installer, after I downloaded and installed it I opened up my daz studio and there was still nothing in the smart content I then re-imported the metadata and that did the trick! Thank you so much for your help and your patience with me!

I'm glad it is now working the way you want it to, and I was glad to help.

Please do not be afraid to ask questions on this forum, it is what it is set up for. If someone gives you some advice, and you don't understand what they mean, please ask them to clarify the instructions. It is very difficult to help when we don't have all the facts, so please also mention what Operating System you are using, what version, and what version of DAZ Studio.

You can find the complete DAZ Studio version by going to Help > About DAZ Studio, and on the splash screen, it will give the complete version number, to say it is 4.6 is not enough, the latest version is 4.6.3.52 for example.

It takes time to learn all of the ins and outs of any 3D program, and we all had to start at the beginning at some point.

We are here to help, so please let us know if you have any problems.
