complete noob dummy needs help , How can I add bones to an Transformer robot object so I can make it
I am desperate . Very simple ,
How can I add bones to a Transformer robot object so I can make it move like a human? I downloaded a transformer robot 3d object.
Now I want to try to get it moving like a human . How and where and what and when do I add bones/skeleton/rigging/ etc. etc.
Nowhere I can find a tuts for this, at least I tried to search for it on the DAZ docs (very poor info available) and even video tuts on the internet. They all start somewhere on 2/3th and if you know your way around on 3d modeling , posing , adding bones , animation etc. I guess the previous steps are obvious but not for a brand new kid on the block like me.
I know nothing on rigging, skeleton, bones etc. etc. but I want to learn ....but where can I find the study books??Where can I find the video clips. The ones around are so general and cover the area anyone can find out for himself when globally playing with the DAZ presets...
Anyone knows where to find the real tuts or has the right tutorials for me on this?
Already many many thanks in advance.
Cheers

not redistributable
harder but redistributable if using you own selfmade own model

Thanks wendy♥catz, Ive wanted to do that for skirts, for a very long time now. Like the op, I know nothing about adding bones to anything.
I've only read in a Blender cloth-making forum, that an item exported to Studio, looses all that rigging, and it needs to be conjured back up somehow using stuff that looked like Greek and voodoo to me, lol. Thanks so much for the links.
Wendy , thank you so much . I'll look in to it asap. :-).
This is awesome.

OK, I tried doing this but several issues make my blood boil of irritation.
1th - How can I load a 3d Object into Daz 3d so it gets orientated perfectly with its front viewing me and not as always upside down or laying sideways or diagonal?
2nd -concerning Wendy's link to the vid (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56wo8iHM-Q) I managed to get to the part of selecting the hip and trying to get it placed 'inside' the Transformer 3d .obj (so it can function as one of the bones I think) , only , selecting and orientating the friggin 'hip' as a bone is almost not possible , it disappears
when I click one mm next to it , I have to select it again and when I get a hold of it it moves and turns in ALL the directions except the one I want it to go :(.....
So , sorry to bother you again, what am I doing wrong ? Any tips on the right working methods?
Cheers all
A models scale and orientation on import is a result of the modeling program used and selecting the appropriate import option. It should be noted that the Blender import and export settings are not right so if the model was built in it the easiest way to fix things is to adjust them in Studio then export back out with Custom 100% scale setting and import back in with same.
What I do is export a Genesis with default pose and import it into every pack I make to get the scaling right.
I changed the .obj orientation and saved it . Now it opens perfectly. Thanks for your tip :)
Sorry Frank , I am not sure what you mean cos I am a complete idiot here, I just started exploring Daz and its universe :)
I tried the somewhat transfer utility option (loading an actor/genesis fe) , selected several options in the transfer option window) and after that the Transformer .obj did move something....but.....when I 'move' the bones it becomes more like a drunk Picasso painting (figure that out, haah) .
What I am trying now is adding bones to that Transformer robot .obj as good as possible and I am hoping to find a way later to get the transformer to move with the bones.
I set up /added some bones on the left side and I am wondering if there is a possibility to copy/mirror the bones in the opposite direction so I save some time . Unfortunate the symmetry option function does exactly nothing with the bones. I know I have to do many other things first but I followed the instructions of a vid-link Wendy provided Daz studio rigged Roebuck Pauljs response ([Full HD])( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56wo8iHM-Q) but there is no voice explanation just background muzic , making me guess what is done sometimes.
I reached the point of adding bones and my next step is trying to find a way to mirror the bones set (if possible) but like I mentioned before , I guessed symmetry would do the trick for me but nothing actually happens when trying several options in the 'symmetry window'
Anyone knows what has to be done here?
For Rigging original figures using the Triax system, this is a very good investment. Explanations and a project walk-through.

There are a couple of terms that have changed since the tutorial was made but it is possible to figure it out. Many things show up on the right-click menu. Polygon selector became Geometry selector.
