hi is it ok to have manually installed content as daz3d/myfolder/Victoria4/runtime
/data
/aiko4/runtime
/data
etc /etc
or should I use separate content folder for each ie 1 for aiko4 2 Victoria 4 etc
I am using latest daz3d
all dim downloads go to default folder

Why do you want to move your content?

If you want all of your content to install to another location, then you should tell DIM to install it there. DIM by default installs into

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

But you can change this location to anywhere you want, except Program Files. It is probably better to leave it where it is unless you have a specific reason for moving it.

You should let DIM install V4 and A4, and ttey will be installed into a folder called Runtime, which is inside the My DAZ 3D Library folder. That way, DAZ Studio and Poser can find the content, and load it without any problem.

this I intend to keep doing

I am not moving all my content I am keeping dim installed content in the folder you state C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library[/size

its content that is not installed by dim that's installed in c/user/me/documents/daz3d/my folder I want to reorganize from scratch using the structure on my 1st post if its possable

The Runtime and Data folder must be in the root of the content directory - in the folder that you told DS to use, not in a sub-folder. So if you select daz3d/myfolder/Victoria3 and daz3d/myfolder/Aiko3 as content directories, and as long as not other folder up to daz3d/myfolder was selected as a content directory, that would work for the third generation figures. It would really work, at least effectively, for Victoria 4 and Aiko 4 since they are the same figure - Aiko 4 is a morph for Victoria 4 and the morph files absolutely must be in the same content directory as Victoria 4, while all the Aiko 4 content is also Victoria 4 content (and vice versa, using transfer Active Morphs where needed).

Thanks for your answer I think I understand do I have to make different content directory for each Victoria 4 and for aiko 4 and aiko 3
    daz3d/studio/myfolder/aiko4 another directory daz3d/studio/myfolder/victoria4
or one content directory as follows daz3d/studio/myfolder/aiko4
    /victoria4
    /aiko3
    sorry but abit confused

You need to have a content directory for anything you want to have a content directory for. You can't put the Runtimes and Data folders in several subfolders within a single content directory 9and as i said, Aiko 4 isn't a separate figure from V4, or any of the other female fourth generation adults, so it wouldn't make sense to try splitting those). You could split the files in the libraries, for Poser content, or the suer-facing files, for native DS content, as long as you left the \Data, \Runtime\Geometries, \Runtime\Textures and any \Runtime\Libraries folders that don't show in the content pane (such as the !DAZ folder) alone but it would be very easy to go astray and i really don't get the impression you understand the folder structure well enough to know what can safely be moved.

thanks for you fast response and taking the time to answer me your right I do not understand the folder structure that well but I am trying to learn but at 74 it takes longer. just to explain I was not going to move files I was going to reinstall all none dim files. I installed these manually but every thing gets mixed up it takes ages to find anything but I will have put up with it thanks again for helping

First of all jimlin, you are not alone here having a few miles on the clock, we have quite a few 'older' members (me included, a young 67).

If all you want to do, is install your 'non DIM' files, i.e. freebies and items from other stores, then you should be able to do that, a lot of users do. You can have several DAZ Studio library folders (I do), and DS can work with them all. The example you gave of V4 and A4 is not a good one really, because these WILL install with DIM as they are DAZ 3D items available in the store here.

Generation 4 figures were just prior to Genesis, and for the females, V4 was the base figure. Aiko 4 (A4) is simply a morph of V4, and they need to live in the same Runtime folder (they are both in Poser Format). Any of the Generation 4 female figures are morphs of V4 and the same rule applies. Also, M4 is the base Male figure for Generation 4, so Hiro 4 (H4) needs to be in the same Runtime folder as M4.

Now that is out of the way, what you are downloading as freebies, or items from other stores, will usually be clothing or hair or poses for V4 and A4 etc. and not figures, so there are no real restrictions on where they can go, but if they are in Poser format, they need to go into a Runtime structure so that DAZ Studio can 'see' them.

If you look at the structure of the default DIM install folder, C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library you will see that it contains a folder called 'data' and another folder called 'Runtime' both directly inside the My DAZ 3D Library folder. You would need to keep that structure in any new library folder you create yourself.

If you are still not sure of how to go about it, please ask, but give full details of the structure of the ZIP file (or even a link if it's a freebie) and I'm sure we can help you sort it out.

There is also an option called Categories inside DAZ Studio, and users can create their own categories to make things easier to find. For example, you could create a category called 'Victoria 4' and inside that, you could have sub-folders of Figures, Clothing, Hair, Poses etc etc, and then you could do the same for A4 and M4 and any other figures you have. The main point of this is, that you can organise the content in a way which is logical to you, to make things easier to find.

You know where we are now, so any questions, just fire away. There is a tut by AdamR on how to set up your own Categories, and I'll get you a link if you want?

Here is a link to AdamR001's tutorials page : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/306/

The one that you need for categories is under

    * Using DS4 Categories Crash Course

It links to here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_nnPf8nCcc4 and I found it very useful. It may not be exactly the same as your version (it ws done a few years ago) but it should be a great help.

Thank you for the kind words too :)

First of all, what version of DAZ Studio are you using, Help > About DAZ Studio?

Did you install PostgreSQL, or are you still using Valentina with CMS? You can check this by going to the Task Manager to see if Content Management Service is running as a process, or by looking in the Log file, Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File.

If you are using PostgreSQL, you should find the following line in the log file, and you could do a search for 'Postgresql'

Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit

You need to go to the Content Library pane, to the drop-down menu at the top right of the pane, and select Content DB Maintenance. Then select 'Remove Orphaned File References', that should get rid of the yellow triangles.

The important one for you when creating your own Categories, is 'Export User Data'. You should do that any time you change the Categories that you have created or added to them. That way the information is not lost.

If things are not back to normal, you could try Re-Import Metadata to see if that corrects it. The above instructions should work for either Valentina or PostgreSQL.

You need to save your user data often to make sure that it is not lost.

    I have latest daz3d installed 64bit

I am using CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4,

yellow triangle have gone using method above

cannot see where to save content data

You use the Content DB Maintenance menu to Export User Data.

When you go to the Re-Import Metadata option, User data is first on the list, you can ignore the other metadata if you wish, and just reimport your own User Data.

I re-imported the user data I had exported but it did not re-import my category's only metadata ones.
I am rearranging my category's again hop it works this time
is export user data what you meant when you said I had to save often if not what
thanks for you help and time very much appreciated

Yes, use the option Export User Data from the Content DB Maintenance menu from the drop-down in the Content Library pane. That should save any Categories that you have created.

If you want to re-import your user data, just tick it in the window that pops up when you select Re-Import Metadata, and untick all the rest by clicking on the All Products box. Only your saved User Data will be reimported, and that way, you should never lose any categories that you have created.

    thank all working fine

do you think the reason I lost categories was because I installed daz 3d 32 bit and installed PostgreSQL 32bit which uninstalled PostgreSQL64 bit .I did not realise this would happen

I really don't have the answer to that, I have just started using PostgreSQl myself recently

Just make sure to save your User data often when creating new categories, and all should be well.

If you had PostgreSQL 64 bit installed, you must have a 64 bit OS, why would you choose to use the 32 bit version of DS, the 64 bit versin is better in many ways if you are running a 64 bit system. It can use all available memory for one thing.

I installed ds 32 bit to use lip-synch which is not in ds 64 bit

    Ah yes, that's true.

You can have both 32 bit and 64 bit installed at the same time you know?
