MFD for Genesis 2 - Bizarre transparency issue [SOLVED]

Hi there. I'm fairly new to the 3D modeling scene, and I've picked up a few things as I've gone along, but one thing has completely stumped me. I've been using the Morphing Fantasy Dress (MFD) for Genesis 2 Females (Linked here), and run into the weirdest problem with transparency.

When any transparency map is applied to the dress, it appears as if the dress is attempting to overlap itself. Additionally, the base figure can be loosely seen through the dress. In some basic research, this sort of thing is not uncommon, and rendering the objects will display the transparency correctly. Rendering the objects using any setting combination I have tried so far still displays the transparency issue. The only way I've found to resolve the problem is by completely removing the transparency map from the object. I've tried this with two different dress textures, so it's likely not an issue with a single dress style.

It's fairly difficult to describe what's happening accurately, so I've included a few pictures below.

MFD Base
MFD with... Texture 1 applied, Texture 1 transparency map removed, Texture 1 rendered.
MFD with... Texture 2 applied, Texture 2 transparency map removed, Texture 2 rendered.

I have attempted to manually fix the transparency maps myself by creating copies of the files and touching up potential problems, as well as drawing completely new transparency maps and trying one map on the other texture, and vice-versa. Nothing so far has worked, so I'm afraid I have to bother you nice people to help point me in the right direction. Even the base blank texture exhibits these exact problems when a transparency map is applied to it.

Thank you for your time. If you need me to provide any other screenshots or information, please let me know.

To be honest, to me it looks as though you have another dress object applied to the figure, as well as the MFD. Especially in the 2nd set of images

BTW you can attach the images directly to your post by using the Browse button beneath the type panel and browsing to the location of your images on your computer.

I'm fairly certain that isn't the case, as all of those screenshots were taken in a completely new project with only the genesis 2 figure and the dress applied.

To make absolutely certain, I started a new file with nothing but the dress and applied the transparency file from the second texture set to it. I've attached the results as a screenshot, and as the result of rendering.

    Same result as above.

I asked some one else, and he said

Renders or previews? If the latter, it's just the way the display goes with transmapped surfaces (and if they are OpenGL renders that may be true too, the best option is to have render quality slider on max or to specify 3Delight directly)

can you show us a screen shot of your settings, please

Behold the face of a tremendous idiot! (It's me)

I thought I had the render settings at the maximum preset. I had them at the minimum preset. Once I swapped over to the best rendering preset (which uses 3Dlight as suggested), the problem goes away. It's still there in the preview screen, but that fits the bill of "problem everyone has".

Again, thank you very much for your time!

    Glad we could help.

Can you please edit your thread title to add {solved} to it. then others will see that this is a problem that can be solved

    Thanks
