How to get these boots on this guy?

Sorry for the newb question but I just can't figure it out.
I made my character from Ja-Long, just added some weight and bulk to him. I'm trying to get these boots (Privateer for M3) onto him but the autofit only gives me the options of Genesis and Genesis 2 Female.
What am I doing wrong?

Are they parented to the foot?
Welcome to the bane of Auto-fit. While there are some rigging available for purchase to add former genesis figure shapes to Auto-fit, to "Supposedly" allow Auto-fit to put stuff on Genesis (1) and G2F/G2M. Shews and hair don't always work as advertised.
while stuff made for Michal# and Victoria# "Should" have the least amount of problems, Items made explicitly for other figure shapes (before Genesis) will be a hit or miss affair.
If it was something other then shews or hair, I would not hesitate in just shoot you a link to the Genoration3 for Genesis, or Genoration3 for Genesis 2 products.
Case and point, that blue skirt joke in my gallery, was explicitly made for Aiko4, not victoria4, and it just did not auto-fit at all.
Now if you can get to the hidden morph/shaping stuff for the boots. You may be able to morph them to fit Ja-Long, then just parent them to the feet, without auto-fit, possibly. I'll defer to "Frank0314" on this.
What's the figure you are trying to fit to, Genesis, G2M...?
Short answer: you aren't doing anything wrong.
You are going to have to fit those to Genesis first. There is no M3 to G2M template.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

So that would be G2M from Michal3 (generation 3), it's a big jump.
You are correct, I believe. To AutoFit them to Genesis, you'll need the V3 and M3 Shapes for Genesis. After you have AutoFitted the boots to Genesis, save as a figure asset (File>Save as>Support Assets>Figure/Prop Asset). Then you should be able to AutoFit that file you saved to G2M.

This is correct. You'll need to autofit it to genesis and save it as an asset first, then it can be autofit (and saved) as a g2m asset.
