Copying vs Node Instances?
I know I can create new node instance of a character and those instances will do what that original character does. But how can I copy that original character and make unique adjustments to it. My goal is to create a handful of figures marching at slightly different rates then creating a handful of node instances of each to create a larger mob.

Save your completed soldier as a Scene Subset, and merge it into the new Scene.
Not being an instance, it will take up the same memory as the original, so you may not be able to load very many at the same time.
You can also use Edit>Duplicate>Duplicate Node Hierarchies (for a figure with clothes and hair).
One can also duplicate a figure directly now from the menu. There are two options available:
Edit > Duplicate > Duplicate Node Heirarchies
Edit > Duplicate > Duplicate Node(s)
However, run a quick spot render test on a piece of your selected figure and the original for comparison before you use it; there appears to be some issue under certain circumstances that makes the copy all shiny instead of identical. A copy of V3 seems to work, a copy of Genesis1 does not for example.
Thanks Richard, I always forget that one.
I just tried it on Aiko 6, with clothes and hair. The clothes worked OK, but the hair was not on the duplicated model, although it was in the Scene pane, and was selectable, but not visible in the Viewport.
Was the hair parented to the figure or just fitted? The various commands that work on hierarchies do require that everything be parented to a common root, which is why conforming clothes are now tending to load as children of the wearer.
Yes, the hair was just 'Fit To' so that is probably the reason.
I didn't check in the Task Manager, but my system seemed to take quite a big hit from doing it that way. It may get better as time goes on, but I think for now, I would use the File > Merge to load a saved complete Scene subset.
