Question about Merchant resource kits

In the description it says "you must alter the maps and make them your own" ... what exactly does this mean? Alter them how? I am contemplating buying a set but I need to know what this means exactly first. Thanks for any help as this may sound like a very silly question to some...lol

If you intend to include that resource in something that you are selling, you will need to make changes to those maps and cannot sell assets using them unmodified.

Personally, I don't know how significant a change is required. Using this set as an example, you could make a variety of edits to suit your needs, adding scars, tattoos, freckles and moles. Smoothing out the pores for more of a 'supermodel' look, some nasty green zombie effects, or even improve on the overall look of the maps.

Are you thinking of using the resource kit to make your own products to sell?

If so then there should be a significant level of difference between the original and the skin that you end up with. Enough hopefully that people will not be able to look at your skin and say "Ah I see they used such and such resource kit" Some kits do state a percentage.

As has been said freckles, moles, beauty spots, scars. also skin shade, skin texture, makeup all provide variations.

If you are wanting to use the resource kit just to make different textures for your own use, then that is different, but most merchants who sell resource kits do make them for people who want a base to work from in producing new products for sale, hence the note about changing them

Also be aware that most resource kits of this nature do state that they are only to be used for skins redistributed as a commercial item, and not used to make freebie skins.

There are some skins textures from characters in the DAZstore I recognize from resource kits, either from this or other sites.
A merchant once told me that even adding a single mold would suffice...

I don't know who told you that, because most, if not all, merchant resource kits require significant change to be made. They are sold as the base from which to build a new skin and are not intended to be used as is. One minor detail added would not be enough alteration to satisfy the requirement to change the skin.

Well for now it would just be for my own use to learn as I have never done that time of work, but in the future as a product to sell is why I wanted to know exactly what kind of changes were significant enough, thanks for the answers. I may have purchased a merchant resource in the past for V4 and never used IIRC, so I will check that out and practice other wise will find a new one for G2 and go from there :)
