IRay not using GPU
I know there are many other discussions about this topic. I have read many of them and tried out the advice but without any success. I'm hoping someone can help me if I provide specific details about my situation.
i have recently purchased my first Nvidia GPU. I know it's not the best but it's all I can afford. The card is a GTX 1650 Super with 4Gig of VRAM. I know it doesn't take much of a scene to use up 4gig, but I only make very small scenes often rendering 1 or 2 objects at a time and layering in post. I've done a few test renders since getting the card but it doesn't seem like it's using the GPU at all.
In trouble shooting I have tried to render very small scenes to ensure that I'm not using all the VRAM, even trying just a sphere primitive sitting on a plane primitive and it still didn't use the GPU. I have been into the Render Settings Advanced tab and made sure my GPU is selected. I have gone into the GPU settings and made sure CUDA cores All is selected for DAZ. I have downloaded the latest drivers for the card from Nvidia.com, trying both the gaming and graphics optimised drivers. I set the view ports in DAZ to wireframe in case that was stealing VRAM. All of which didn't seem to help. So I'm at a loss.
i just made a simple scene with a G3M base figure wearing just the default basic boxer shorts and tried a test render which seemed to render with the CPU yet again. Below is the log for that render. I can't see any memory errors in the log, but I don't understand it fully. Can someone please help.

I should also point out I've test the GPU with other apps/games and it works without any issues.
According to that log it did use the GPU.
Really? It says 'CPU: Processing scene...'
I really am a newbie at this stuff. Could you please point out how I can tell? I was monitoring my GPU during the render and it did seem to do anyting where the CPU was 100% used. During the render the dialogue box said 'native cpu code generated".
Sorry about my lack of knowledge.
Uncheck the CPU in your render settings tab (go to Render Settings and select the Advanced tab and then make sure only your GPU is selected)--the scene was attempting to use both your GPU and CPU for the render, which slows things down. Note that most of the iterations (481) were rendered by the GPU (see the last 2 lines of your log file), but 34 iterations were done on the CPU. When you allow both CPU and GPU to be used, IRAY tries to use both devices and then merge the iterations together. If one device starts lagging behind (usually the CPU), it gets dropped and then IRAY only uses the faster device for that iteration, but it still waits for the slower device. Waiting on a slower device slows down your render times. Note that the GPU ran 481 iterations in 11.3 seconds (or 42.5 iterations/second) while the CPU ran 34 iterations in 10.7 seconds (or 3.2 iterations/second), so your GPU for this scene is 13x faster than your CPU. As long as your scenes take up less than 4 GB VRAM, you should be fine with your new GPU and see your render times drop significantly from your previous system.
