Hey everyone,

I am currently knee deep in the EULA I am pretty confused about pretty much everything. But from what I can gather. DAZ products are locked down pretty tight legally for everything other than use in DAZ Products. I could be wrong here.

So I am going to ask a few questions as well as give some feedback.

Film Production -
1. Is it allowed to render or develop film with DAZ product using 3rd party software? Stuff like The Unreal Engine 4 or Cryengine Cinebox.
2. Are the Necessary maps (I.E. Roughness, Normal Maps, Diffuse, etc.) Provided with DAZ products?
3. Would using DAZ products be allowed for a Virtual Reality based film?

Game development -

1. So I want to make a game with DAZ products / Models - I am willing to spend money on said models. However I do not want to make money back. I just want to make something that people will enjoy. With that said - Would I still need a license to develop games using DAZ products? Because this would eat into my art budget that i have set aside for necessary tools for said game.
2. Are DAZ products game ready? I do not see any form of Polycount or Tri angle count on DAZ Models.
3. Is there anyway I can provide feedback on an the game dev license?

3D Printing - Feedback
I learned yesterday that I cannot 3D print Daz products without a license. I am finding this really concerning as DaZ products are not 3D print ready which would require a bunch of work by either a contractor or the Individual depending on the topology of the model.

My advice

1. Open a separate store front / Website for 3D printable assets and models. This will pay for itself after the initial investment.
2. Offer 3D printing Services as well as models.
3. Get your Content providers from the current DAZ site to make content for this new site. Use incentives to do so.
4. Make money from sales not from expensive licenses.
5. Do not make a 3D printing license - This will chase away potential customers who want to 3D print DAZ models.
6. Offer these models at different price points Example (10.00 Personal Use and 20.00 Redistribute Use, etc. )

If there is anywhere better to put this thread please let me know :)

I really want to make something with DAZ products but I want to do it with the tools I am comfortable with.

Thank you for your time,

Ben Stanley

You need a license to use DAZ 3D models in a game. This license will only cover models which are DAZ Originals, ie have DAZ 3D listed as one of the vendors. There are a few PAs who allow their products to be used in gmeas,, with the purchase of an additional license to cover the use of their products.

So am I correct in my assumption that a game dev license is only required when using actual models/meshes/whatever in a game? So using only renders to create 2d sprites, backdrops, animations/cutscenes and other pre-rendered assets for a game would be fine without the additional license? I saw a few other threads that seemed to suggest that, but I want to be sure.

    Yes, that's correct.

Perfect. I want to make a point and click adventure game. This would only require jpgs of rendered scenes and sprite creations for the characters.

I could sell it commercially too, right?

Is it the same for other places like rendorsity and content paradise? I have a hard time comprehending a lot of the lawyer-speak used in these licenses and I don't want to get into any legal trouble.
