I bought a poser model on accident

Alright - brand new here. Bought my first model on Renderosity. I thought it was all models for DAZ but I got one that just had directions for poser.

So - will this model work in DAZ and can someone point me in the right direction on how I would accomplish that. Checking out the tutorials on youtube I see that DAZ is similar to Blender in that there are so many versions that often the tutorial doesn't make sense because it's 2 or 3 versions older.

Similar to Blender? Don't think so.

Yes most poser files can work in D/S just fine [exceptions being the weight mapped figures AFAIK and anything "dynamic"]. Will probably need tweaking on the materials ... that's a normal thing between the programs as each read materials in its own way.

Under Content Library: file would be either a figure or a prop ... click on icon to load it.
On the Surfaces Tab can tweak the settings.
Under Poses will find any material file or pose files if the product came with some.

It does depend what model it is that you bought. We could give you a more definitive answer if we knew what it is.

Most Poser models will work in DS, the problem is that sometimes the textures don't or will only work partially, especially if they use the Poser texture room and nodes, as shaders made this way do tend to be specific for the program.

Also Poser dynamic items will not work, and some newer models which will only work in the newer versions of poser may not work in DS

While DAZ Studio unfortunately is not fully documented, you might find these recent documents (the two PDFs at the very top of this link, "DAZ Studio 4.x QuickStart Guide " and "DAZ Studio 4.x User Guide ") that cover some of the basics to be helpful for getting started. http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/start .

    Thanks for the responses.

The model I got is this: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/the-metropolitan-collection---lyon-and-paris-v4-2/93874

It seems to be nothing but .jpg files put into a file called runtime.

My comment about blender is more for how as the versions change, it becomes more difficult to follow tutorials from earlier versions, not a comparison of the programs.

If you merge the Runtime folder from the zip with the Runtime folder in your content library (My DAZ 3D Library in your Public Documents if you are using the DAZ Install Manager and haven't changed the settings) the files should be available in DS by going to the Content Library pane and looking under Poser Formats>My DAZ 3D Library>Pose>Danae>Paris>ParisSimple or the matching path for Lyon (I think the Simple settings are likely to be a better starting point for DS than the SSS settings). Since there aren't any native DAZ Studio settings you will probably need to do some work adjusting things then.

Looking at the model it says that it requires "Daz’s Victoria 4.2 and Morphs++"

So I've downloaded "Victoria 4.2 base model" from Daz site.

In the content library I can find the files under "My library", then the "Runtime" - but when I get down to the texture files, nothing shows up in the Content library box.

You will also need http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-2-morphs because without it the character morphs won't work at all.

Holy smokes - this can get expensive fast :)

I ordered the morphs but I keep running into another problem. I click to download - it opens the installer file, then it fails to download. I have to close and re-open the installer several times to get it to work.

It's annoying - so for the original files, I put that in "My library" under documents - Daz3D - Studio.

I almost figured this out. Looking at the files I saw that there were only .jpg files. I went back - there were two zip files to download - both shared the same folders. I reloaded and saw that I got the pose files. So I'm able to load them. I get an error when loading poses though that simply says "An error occurred when reading the file. See the error log for details"

her textures at least should load on Genesis too.
    should be under pose.
V4 morphs + would be cheaper to buy for you in a bundle too, V4 is in one of the promos with new items and platinum club+
there are some very good deals with lots of clothes too that can be autofitted to Genesis too.
