Content Library Problems. Why Daz? Why?

I have been using Daz 4.6 since it came out and today I got a nasty surprise. I click on Content Library, then click on Categories, and ALL of the categories are GONE! I tried refreshing and that did nothing.

What is the point of carefully categorizing your props and models if the program mysteriously trashes your efforts? I feel like I can no longer trust this program.

Are you using Valentina CMS or PostgreSQL CMS?

EDIT: Sounds like Valentina, since you were able to click on Categories. Have you exported user data before?

I am simply using whatever came with Daz 4.6. I shouldn't have to be a database expert for it to remember its shit.

I have not exported user data. When I installed Daz, the content categories were all pre-made and they held the default models, props, etc that comes with daz4.6. As I installed other models, I would have to add those manually. But today.... poof.... all gone.

    First try this method:

    1) Shut down DS
    2) Go to the Start Menu > Programs > DAZ 3D > DAZ Content Management Service > Start CMS
    3) Restart DS
    4) If the categories are back, go to the options menu (the icon in the upper corner of the Content Library with 4 horizontal lines) > Content DB Maintenance > Export User Data. It will take a while if you have a lot of manually-categorized content. That way you'll have a backup if the database gets corrupted.

Tried this method a hundred times. It only lasts about 15 minutes before it shuts down again.
I've tried everything in the book... Never worked for me. I gave up on the CMS a long time ago...
Useless application if you ask me.

Check your firewall isn't blocking access to the port the CMS uses. I couldn't see the Smart Content either until I set my firewall to 'learn' so it flagged every access. It flagged the DAZ CMS a few times but after I added the blocked files to the trusted zone it has been working ever since.

    AWESOME! IT WORKED!

If I need to read in the manually-categorized content, do I choose 're-import Metadata'?

    Yes, that's right.

If you have not upgraded to PostgreSQL CMS, which it sounds like you have not, you can go to the directory:

Program Files -> DAZ -> Content Management Service -> vlogs

There should be a lot of log files in that directory. Look a few of the most recent ones. See if there are any messages that look like errors.
