Help with Animate2 list?

Can anyone explain the Animate2 list of scene elements. I have a big scene, but am only animating a couple characters in it. So I don't need a long list of the walls, floors, and props in a scene. Can I somehow create a list that only has the elements I'm actually animating?

And what is the function of the "Eye" emblem? It seems to conflict with the same sort of EYE emblem in the Scene list. I have turned off the eye in the Animate timeline and can seem to get the character back visible in the scene…even though the EYE is on in the scene list.

And another pet peeve while I'm on a roll: my scroll button can scroll up and down this long list of stuff to the left of the Animate2 panel, but it also…without warning…compresses and expands the timeline itself. Scrolling up suddenly shrinks the timeline…but scrolling down does not expand it. Frustrating.

So I've found I can delete tracks by using the "-" symbol. There really should be a right-click option for this. And there should be a way to select several rows and deleting them as a group. I can't seem to option-click several tracks.
