transfer utility

Hey all, first I'd like to thank all the people who came to my aid on modeling clothes in blender. I truly appreciate it. After I modeled my shirt and imported it back into daz studio everything looked fine. But when I tried to make the shirt pose with the character - i.e. transfer utility, it always drops the shirt to the floor and I can't move it afterward. So, what am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

it's hard to say what might be causing the problem, if you could post a picture of the issue perhaps we can help further. That said, if you're working from a morph instead of the default figure, be sure to export at the right scale

Many morphs for Genesis figures also alter the scale of the figure. When a figure wears any clothing, that scale is inherited by the outfit. So if you were to make a dress for a child morph and model it on the base child without changing the scale first you end up doubling the rescale (46% of 46% for example). To avoid this, always set the scale to 100% before exporting.

Okay, I think you're right about the morph issue, but how do I know what the scale of my figure is to adjust the imported shirt for?

This is the before pic. And what happens after transfer utility.

The clothes need to fit on the figure without any transforms - if they don't, and you modelled around the intended wearer, then your preset in and out didn't match or your modeller applied a transform in one direction but didn't reverse it in the other. One fix is to line the clothes up in DS, export as OB, then reimport using the same preset (so, say, use the DAZ Studio preset for import and export).

In other words, on import the .obj clothing MUST "land as desired" ON the figure. Then run the TU and it will stay put.

Thank you, that did the trick. I guess I should have known that considering to get the figure to work in blender, I had to exported, imported it back into daz, and export it again for it to work. Thank you, now I should be able to actually start making my own clothes.

Well, I thought it did the trick, but when I tried to make the real shirt instead of the test one - which I stupidly deleted without thinking I might want to check the differences - it keeps causing mesh collision when I use transfer utility. Here's a before and after. Thank you for your time.

Are you sure that's fitting the zeroed figure, not a morphed figure?

As far as I know. It's just the basic figure, which I used to model the shirt from in the first place. If I scale it up, export it out and import it in again, it has less mesh collision. But that seemed like a lot of work, especially, since I have to just keep playing with the scale until it works.
