PostgresSQL changeover

OK, I did a search and the posts that returned did not explain things as well as I would like.

So in my DIM downloads, I have the PostgresSQL, and that Valentine? conversion.

What are the proper steps for using the new postgres CMS?

What do I need to export/save/do something with the database in order to prepare for a changeover?

Do I need to uninstall the old CMS? Stop it manually?

Is there a Stop and/or Start for the new Postgres CMS?

Do I need to find an run this Valentine Conversation?

I don't know if it matters, but I am currently using a MAC OS X 10.9.4 with a DAZ Studio 4.6.0.18. I ask these question because it seems the PostgresSQL version will work better for my current set up.

I understand that this may have been answered, but my search didn't find it easily. If there's a post or article that answers all of this, I'd love a link. If not, I'd like the steps for changing over.

Thanks,

AJ

It's wise to export the user data, especially if you have done much custom categorisation - Content Library pane option menu, Content DB Maintenance, Export User data.

Then close DS (it's always best to close DS before installing anything) and install the PostgreSQL database, then when that has finished "install" the Valentina to PostgreSQL transfer tool - which actually converts the database, it doesn't install anything as such. With luck when you start DS you will still have all of your content and categories available, and you will be able to see that PostgreSQL is running by the addition of a new tab to the preferences dialogue (Apple menu/Preferences). If not (if your Valentina database was on the edge of corruption, for example, the conversion may fail) go to the Content DB Maintenance dialogue again (from the Content Library option menu) and choose reimport Metadata to load in the exported data.

PostgreSQL doesn't run constantly in the background but starts and stops with DS and DIM - for which reason you want to wait a few moments after closing one of them before launching either of them - and it has Start and Stop commands in the Content Library option menu.
