A few questions...

Hey, guys!

I'm at work thinking about DAZ and how much fun it is. I'm only a few days into the program, but I've picked things up fairly quickly.

Anyways, I'm sitting here procrastinating and figured I'd post some random questions:

Is there a way to group things in the Scenes tab and move them together? Last night I spent some time on 2 figures and then wanted to elevate them (above the ground plane)... only to realize I couldn't highlight both in the Scene window and move them (I would see the arrows, but the figures wouldn't move). Note: There were genitalia merged to them, so... that could be a factor?

• When manipulating body parts (manually posing), what are some good practices? Subtle movements can make big changes. Is there a way to lock the majority of the body from moving while, say, adjusting an arm? Is it the arrow check mark / x in the Scenes panel? I would just have to go in and manually lock every single scene asset for, say, Genesis and then unlock what I want to pose? Seems tedious. Can you lock, say, Figure 1's hand to Figure 2's arm?

No matter what genitalia I use, or what genitalia texture... or even if I copy / paste the hip or leg texture (and settings) to the upper genitalia / genitalia for Genesis male (just genitalia for Genesis Female) – the colors never match 100%. I realize that these add-ons don't come stock, so you have to tweak them, but I'm just wondering what the best method is? I can get the colors close, but, ultimately, after a render it's pretty obvious the texture / color / whatever is off.

• Do I need to have LuxRender (standalone) installed in order to use the Reality plugin?

• Do I need Hexagon to make my own custom facial expressions, etc? I have a handful of expressions, but I need more. Not sure how to manipulate the face (eye lids blinking, lips apart, open mouth, tongue positions, etc) without having to use a preset or something. Can I do it myself with just the base Daz3d 4.6 software? If so, where within the program?

• Last night while rendering, I kept seeing random colored pixels (pink, blue, red) in my render. Why?

Select the items you wish to group, then go to Create>New null and in the More options section choose to parent the items to the new null.

The arrow symbol in the scene pane is for toggling selectability, so you can make things that might get in the way unselectable to let the mouse clicks through to other items. You can lock items, from the Parameters pane option menu (lined button in the top corner) or from the Edit>Figure or Edit>Object menus.

The male genitals don't take the base figure textures but need special maps - which not all sets include. The female genitals do just take the body textures, but copying and pasting won't change the shader - it's generally best to apply the body materials preset to the female genitals.

Yes, Reality needs the Lux Render plug-in - at one time it included that in the initialler but I'm not sure about the current version.

Select the head to see the expression morphs - they are regarded as posing rather than shaping properties so they are on the affected body part rather than on the root node. You don't need Hexagon (or the like) unless you want to directly manipulate the emsh, and even then you can use DForms inside DS.

The random pixels are a problem in 3Delight with Depth mapped Shadows - making sure the light intensities are below 100 can help, but the best fix is to use ray-traced shadows.

Menu : Create - New group and in Scene tab put them in the group or select them before creating the group

you can move body parts by selecting them and use things like bend / twist etc or use the universal tool.

copy paste the texture that should work.

    Yes

Hexagon or Blender (free), but first see what you can do by combining them and don't forget the one in the parameters pose controls - head - Expressions

Bad settings somewhere ... try the adamr001's profile you can find them there http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/16085/ And check your shadow settings.

    Another question!

    • Say I spend some time posing 2 figures together. Or, maybe just posing 1. Can I save that pose and use it elsewhere (on different figures)?

For example, say I pose a Genesis Female and Genesis 2 Male... can I save the pose and merge it on, say, a Genesis 2 Female and Genesis Male?

Side note: I would assume most people have an archive of their own personal poses and stuff, right?

File>Save as>Pose preset will let you save a pose, but although you should be able to apply it to another figure the results won't be exactly right - for example, the base position of the feet is not the same in Genesis and Genesis 2 so foot poses will need to be adjusted.
