Noob needs help with smoothing... (drapes of clothing)
Hi guys,
I got myself DAZ yesterday and started to set up my first scenes... went quite ok for me thanks to the software.. now I`m trying to set the scene up (check the picture) and just am to stupid to find the way to smooth out the meshes of the cape and her tabard also doesnt seem to snuggle up nice enough.
I don't have V4 (or the morphs) only Genesis so I used the option to morph from v4 to genesis... could that be the reason??!?
Thanks in advance

Ok, not sure if I understand the question right, "morph from v4 to genesis", but if you mean that you used autofit to fit V4 clothes to genesis, then that is most likely the problem: autofit isn't that good in converting (fitting) long dresses and the likes to genesis.
I don't know the outfit, but maybe there are some additional morphs in it that may help shaping the clothing items, something like adjustment morphs.....
ok thanks.. I am running thru the topics here and found 2 quite helpful ones seems your right... and I also was on the right path presuming it as well...
history (evolution) of all the figures for DAZ:

there was another with a simular problem that said it was the best idea to get the v4.2 (the clothes should work with autofit then)

(actually you replied to that one as well) lol
I believe the problem may be the Smooth modifier, it does not work well with clothing modeled with layers.
Hi Frequenz5!
Space Dweller has multiple clothing pieces that layer over each other. If you go into the mesh smoothing section of the parameters and set the "Collision Item" for the Tabard to the Dress under it that will help. Make sure to keep the actual Dress's collision item set to Genesis.
If the movement is still too "stretched out" for you the smoothing iterations can always be increased just keep in mind that the more items in the scene with higher smoothing iterations the longer it will take DS to calculate all the clothing items and it may drag on your system. If you are using iterations over 5-10 per clothing piece I would suggest doing a quick check to make sure it's all layering the way you want and then turn off the smoothing by clicking the "Enable" button to Off until you are ready to render.
If you are interested in learning more about what all the stuff in the Mesh Smoothing section does I have a tutorial on it here:

It's for applying smoothing to Victoria 4 but can be used on pretty much anything in DS4+ ;-)
I did up a quick conversion and flipped on the smoothing. I got the best results with the Generic Smoothing Type and 25 Iterations for the Dress, Tabard and Cape. Don't forget that all the pieces come with movement and adjustment morphs that can help a lot in posing as well as the actual bones (thighs/shins/pelvis etc.).
Here's a quick render!
