Textures on Props without Texture

I tried to change the texture of some objects.
I recognized that it is very easy to change the texture of objects which already have an texture in the texture folder,
but if I want to change the texture of one which doesn´t have a texture or just a color it doesn´t work.

what can I do?

those items are probably not UV mapped
in 3D space you have x,y,z cartesian co-ordinates
u,v are the 2D equivalants if you flattened the model out unfolding it on a flat surface.
a UV unwrap program can do this, there are a few free ones
to see if it is UV mapped look at it in UV view in Daz studio
if it is you will see a grid map
if not a dot or line
you can obj export it to load in a UVunwrap program, unwrap it and re-export it the new model will take textures
there should be some simple unwrap options such as planar, box, spherical and cylindrical to pick from
pick what ever is nearest to the shape of your chosen model and the axis it is on.

IMO The two best for uvmapping are UVLayout and Ultimate Unwrap 3D

A second option is to select the surface and apply a shader to it, if you wish to use one of those rather than wrap an image file around it.
