Question about adding props and figures to scene

Every time I load a new figure or prop into a scene they all seem to load onto the same spot somewhere far away from the scene im creating. The time it takes to move the camera focus all the way back to the item, and then adjust the camera 4 or 5 times to make sure im moving the tree in the right direction is really starting to add up. Especially if im creating a forest scene with many props. Is there any way to load it closer to where the rest of props are set up, or into the currently selected camera or view area? Also Whenever i pose a figure it resets them back to the original spawn point, and then i have the first issue all over again. -Thanks

Hold Down the ALT key or Mac equivalent as you then Left click the item from your content (hold it too, the left button) and now DRAG the item to your viewport, you will get a Red Yellow Target that will show where the item will load to the Ground when you let go of one of the two buttons.

EDIT: If your Ground is big enough some items my be under it and need moved up to be seen in your set.

Also you might want to try using another viewing angle [like from the top view] for placing the props. Saves resetting the cameras.
