Compatible Graphic Cards?

I'm thinking about getting a refurbished laptop, but I'm not sure what graphic cards are compatible with Daz 3D Iray. Is NVIDIA GeForce MX250 fine? What about SSD Intel Iris Plus Graphics?

  • Intel and AMD GPUs certainly won't be used, you will be limited to CPU rendering.

If you want Iray to use the GPU to render then it has to be a Nvidia card.

The Geforce MX250 should be able to render Iray as long as you are using the Nvidia published drivers (Not Windows Update Drivers!)

The catch is that the MX250 can be configured with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM depending on the computer.  The 4GB version will have enough RAM to render basic one character renders.

Don't expect to render much of anything on the GPU if it ends up being the 2GB one.

Honestly you should be looking at a real world minimum of 6GB on the GPU (Geforce GTX 1060, Geforce GTX 1660, or Geforce RTX 2060)

Alsobe aware the Mx250 is roughly a GTX 1050 or 1030 which is a very low end Pascal card. Even if the scene will fit in the VRAM there isn't a whole lot of CUDA so it won't be all that fast. Still faster than most CPU's but that might be getting into the range where a good CPU might be approaching it.
