"people" folder is messed up

I was in the process of rendering a scene, and I got an error tone but no message. After this DAZ studio would not load Genesis 3 male characters it would just stall. So I went in to content directory manager and did something witih the DAZ connect data section. Now I can't load any people assets as "open as new" because it says files don't exist...but I can load them if I merge into scene, but any attempt to add clothes or poses prompts a " Do you wish to save before closing?" What did I do?

okay i think i got the pathway issue straightened out but Genesis 3 male appears to be a corrupted file it will not load and hangs the system up.
okay when I try to load a gen3 male I get a ding and an unreadable window pops up, and the program is locked up.
What happens when you load a base G3M and then apply the shape and materials?
It doesn't load the base G3M, it just stalls...any render with a G3M asset locks up too. I've tried to re-install the G3M essentials file, I deleted the G3M file then tried reinstalling it. Also I no longer have a render progress window, its not hidden it just isn't there any more.
thanks for commenting
Try clearing the DSON cache (Edit>Preferences).
Nope didn't fix it. Thanks for telling me where to look for the cache.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the content?
Yes I tried using the installer, then I manually deleted the G3M files and reinstalled it...I found a message on the log that states: 2020-08-15 15:41:45.185 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(6681): Could not find target property for formula: abdomen2:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%203/Male/Morphs/Zev0/Growing%20Up/abdomenUpper_CTRLMD_N_XRotate_40.dsf#CTRLMD_N_XRotate_40?value in file : /data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%203/Male/Morphs/Zev0/Aging%20Morphs%203/BenfixPelUp%26LowerAbdoSH1.dsf
There is a big list of errors like this (I'm not going to post them all)...covering the shoulders, upper and lower abdomen and chest of the G3M body.
The problem seems to be with StudioPro, I tried putting a G3F .duf file in the G3M folder and renamed it to see if I got a different error message, but it was the same error message.
That doesn't really prove anything, except that the issue is before the file's contents are read.
How did you install? Where exactly are the files?
I uninstalled and re-installed the files via the files manager...then i manually deleted the .duf file and re-installed it via the manager. The files are in G:\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 3 Male...been there for a long time with no problems.
If you go to the products tab of Smart Content and find the entry for Genesis 3 Starter Essentials (quickest route is to type essentials in the filter box) what, if anything, is shown at top-right of the product thumbnail?
there is nothing there, the other essential products have a triangle with a little circle around it. Uninstalled and reinstalled via the smart content window....didn't make a difference.
The lack of a triangle does mean that it was showing as installed through DS (in which case the Install manager install was doing nothing). Try either just uninstalling there, or uninstall through DIM and then reinstall through Connect - in the past some people (including me) have had the metadata behave oddly, possibly because DIM is two packages and Connect one.
Uninstalled in DIM, went to smart content, showed it as installed. Uninstalled it in smart content and re-installed it. The G3M icon did not pop back up in people folder like its still uninstalled. Icon popped up when i re-installed it via DIM. Still locks things up. I've uninstalled and re-installed G3M a bunch of times ...I don't think the problem is with that. EIther something is corrupted with DAZ or maybe its looking in the wrong pathway?
Connect can't have the wrong folder per se, since it handles both placing the files and reading them (unless you chnage the directory mid-stream, of course). try uninstalling in DS, then install both male and female packages through DIM.
uninstalling in DS does not uninstall it in my directory. The only way it gets uninstalled is by DIM. IS it possible its being saved to two different directories with only one actualy being used(The G drive)?
Uninstalling in DS will remove files from the Connect data Directory, /data/cloud/1_#####/ where ##### is the products SKU. The two install methods place their files in different places, which is why the Connect install can override the DIM/manual install and needs to be removed before you can check the alternative methods' files.
okay uninstalled with DS...reinstalled with DIM. NO change G3M still locks up the system with error messages in log. The problem isn't with G3M, i've uninstalled and re-installed that file every way i can think of...something is corrupted in DS.
Could this be the problem?
You should not have the /data/cloud/ in the daz Connect directory, DS add those itself. I suppose it's possible that having /data/cloud/data/cloud in the path might cause confusion, though it seems unlikely. I do note that you have the original default for Daz Connect listed as a regular Daz Studio content dirctory - you might want to check that there are no left-over files there from an original installation.
okay, I removed those paths...with no ill effect...G3M still doesn't work though.
So what is the current Connect path?
G:/DAZ 3D/studio/my DAz connect Library
And are the Starter essentials currentl showing as installed through Connect or not?
Yes, but G3M still locks DS up
OK, try uninstalling the Connect version and see if it will then work with the Install Manager version.
Uninstalling the Smart Content version does nothing...the icon still shows up. Uninstalling via the DIM or manually deleteing the files is the only way to remove it from my directory. Smart content download must be loading it to a unused file.
It appears Smart Content is saving it to G:\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_42071. DIM is saving to G:\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 3 Male which is the file used by DS.
If there is no Connect install then yes, DS will use the DIM install - which is why I wanted you to be sure there wasn't a Connect install. From what i gather there isn't, and the files are still failing to load. At this point i can only throw you to support as I am out of suggestions.
