Renders come out black

When trying to render out animatics, if I select Intermediate OpenGL, it crashes DS. If I use BasicGL to create a Movie, it just renders black for the length of the animation (even though I have no lights in the scene, and Auto Headlamp set to When No Scene Lights.) I can render using BasicGL to an Image Series, but when I try to render the image sequence into a movie in After Effects, it renders black again. I've done this plenty of times in the past and it's worked fine. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?
