Controlling Location of Merged Character
When I add a character to a scene I typically use the "merge" command and then select the character DUF file (is there a better way?). The character typically materializes in the 0x0x0 position. In a city scene, this can be a long way away from then camera. Is there a way to import the character or object so it appears before the current camera?

Try dragging the saved item (assuming it's a Scene Subset or character preset) from the content pane while holding down alt(Win)/opt(Mac), and release the mouse button then the key it when the target icon is where you want it.
THanks, but that doesn't seem to work. Perhaps it's because this was a "merged" item. I've yet to master the differences between scene subset or character preset. I "merged" the project file of a character into the project file of a setting. I've tried dragging from the scene panel and that doesn't work….are you saying drag from the content library? I suppose the character (genesis figure plus wardrobe) would have to be somehow saved as a grouped item. (I'm really at a loss for the appropriate terminology…is this a character, a figure, people?)
Yes, you would need a scene subset with the figure and its clothes for this to work. Everything in the scene subset will load when you merge it into the current scene.
One tip; All drag loaded items are still at Y 0 so can be inside or under things when loaded and need moved up to match the setting.
