Memory Vram used for a scene

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to know (estimate) how many vram a scene will use when rendering?

would be good to know, so I could know if I have to invest into a RTX Titan or not?

thanks for your answer

Beyond experience? Not really. You should get GPU-Z, Google it, and it will let you see how much VRAM is in use during renders.

Don't be stubborn about things and you shouldn't need a Titan. I have an 11Gb card and an 8Gb and rarely exceed the 8gb card. With the setting that won't let a render drop to CPU you'll always know when you have gone to big and you can optimize the scene.

Amazon has refurbished cards that are half the price, you have to watch for them. People buy them and find they won't work in their motherboard and send them back, Amazon just repackages them and sells them half priced. I think they come with a 2 year warrantee too.

If your computer slows to a crawl when you hit the render button your scene is too big.

If you have a fairly recent video card the Windows 10 task manager tells you when you go to render how much you are filling your vram. if you periodically check the render with the graph open you can see when your scene approaches the vram ceiling.
