It's not easy being green...

... and I really wish some of my renders would stop doing it. Or at least be consistent!

For instance - and this scene's been worked on more since this... which makes for longer renders... which makes for the *random green* character being irritating...

Render 1:
"Gah, he's green!" - hit render again, no changes (seriously)

Early Render 2:
"Well, that worked..." - work on it some more, and...

We get the third render.

I've had the woman in the front be green. Her be normal, the green guy in the back stay green. Guy in back be fine, her go green, woman in the red dress go green.

*What* do I need to do (besides just hit rerender - as this sits, it takes about 20 minutes a piece) to make nobody be green? My searching... does not seem to be turning up much - artifacts, sure, but this is the entire character.

This is a shot in the dark because I have never seen the whole person turn green..But are you using mapped shadows rather than raytraced? Seems like I have had parts of people go green with the mapped shadows in the past.

What is your System, Mac or PC? What is your Bit Depth, 32bit or 64Bit? Which version of DAZ Studio are you running DS 4.6.3.50 is the newest. Which render settings are you using in the Render settings tab, OpenGL or a full 3Delight setting. Which surface Shaders are you using on the figures that turn fully green? And as just asked what type are your lights?

All this info at one time is needed to narrow down what may be the cause of this error. Give us enough info and we may know a fix.

This is just a guess based on the fact that you can get a different result when you re-render the scene with no changes:

When this happens, look at the end of your log file for 3Delight error messages of severity greater than '0'. To view the log file, go to Help -> Troubleshooting -> vew log (or something like that.) The severity '0' messages can be ignored, but if you see something like this, it could be the problem:

    3Delight message #45 (Severity 2): S2069: the interface of shader 'C:/Users//AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio4/temp/shaders/brickyard/{407f8e5c-3a9b-4708-b5e5-799ff1fe7c1d}/shader_Displacement.sdl' is invalid
3Delight message #45 (Severity 2): S2051: cannot load shader 'brickyard/{407f8e5c-3a9b-4708-b5e5-799ff1fe7c1d}/shader_Displacement', will use 'null'

I have not seen the skin turn green because of this, but I have seen it turn black or white.

Also using multiple characters that use the AoA SSS shader and have the same group IDs for the SSS might contribute to this problem, but I have never seen skin randomly turn green before. Only black or white.

Hmm. Thanks, all.. I'd noticed the light (well, shadow) type before and had been changing them - thought I'd done so here. Setting them all (back) to raytraced *seems* to have fixed it...

Then again, the result is random, so I could have just been really lucky the last 24 hours or so, too. :) Either way, I'll take it...

Next thing to look for is more system memory. 8 gig, nothing else running, and that scene came close to capping it.

Also, I'll keep a look out for messages like you mentioned, Mark - I have had the occasional whited-out character. (Not in this particular scene.)

    Thanks again!

All of a sudden I'm getting green shadows on my figure (seems the same green as the OP), its fine when I render with just an AOA Ambient light the green only appears when I load in a light with raytraced shadows.
I have applied the PWToon shader.
There's no colour in the lights or any green colour in the surface settings.
