dforce textured hair issues

Hi could anyone tell me what is going wrong here?

Everytime I add a material to the dforce textured hair, the renders com out looking like what I have below. This hasnt always happened, it only started recently.

Sorry it's gone this long, but in case you didn't find an answer, are you making sure you are selecting the hair and not the base when you apply the preset? I know I saw that happen when I had the base selected on some of the presets, not sure whether it's supposed to work that way, but with the presets I tried they worked when I had the hair selected instead.
