Strand-based hair crashing my system

OK, so I'm running an Intel i5-4590K CPU @ 3.50 GHz with 16 GB with a GeForce GTX 1050Ti with 4 GB. Drivers are up to date. I'm trying to render a relatively simple scene with few props and when I try to use strand-based hair, it freezes up my entire computer, to the point where I have to hit the reset button on my case. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to lower your render tesselate down to 2 or even 1 from default of 3?
Where do you do that at?
This is a post from July 2020... SBH is way less buggy now than it used to be.
Anyway, tesselation is under parameters.
