Maybe I don't understand aspect box

I am talking about the box in the viewport. For example, my aspect box is 900 x 600. This is confirmed by the pane in the upper right hand corner.
I lay a figure down on his back and move his head to the left hand corner of the aspect box.  There is x amount of room from the bottom of his
foot to the right hand corner of the box. I then go to "render settings" "general" and change the aspect ration to 1500 x 1500. Again, the pane
at the top right hand corner shows 1500 x 1500 but in the aspect box, the distance between foot to right hand corner is still the same. I then
change it to 1600 x 900 and I have the same results. It is hard to get furniture, props, and people in that small space if it will not change.
Am I doing something wrong?  I have the latest version of Daz Studio.

What happens if rather than manually setting the resolution you use the presets?

There are two things to check.

If you have Constrain Proportions set to On, then your proportions will be constrained by your aspect ratio preset at the top.  If you want to wing it, then  you need to change that to Off, but I usually change the aspect ratio.

Some products that come with camera presets use local settings for the cameras instead of whatever you put in Render Settings.  That's probably not the case here, but it's something to check when your camera seems to have it's own opinion about how your render should look.

Check that your camera has Dimensions > Use Local Dimensions set to Off.  Otherwise the camera will use its own dimensions rather than the dimensions in the Render Settings pane.

  • Thanks for the help and that is why I say I am not sure about the aspect setting. I am posting two pics. One with the aspect setting at 1500 x 1500. The other with the aspect setting set at
2000 x 2000.  The white box looks the same size.   I was under the impression that changing the aspect size increased the size of the white box  I am trying to increase the width of the
    white box.  Thanks.

The Aspect Ratio at 2000x2000 is the same as 2x2 which is square. You don't use pixel sizes there. The sizes should be 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 etc. square using the pixel sizes from the settings in Pixel Size. So 1500x 1500 pixels or 2000x200 pixels gives the same size box only the number of pixels making up that box changes. To change the width of the box you need to make the Aspect ratio size for the Width to a greater size than the height, e.g 4x3 so to widen the box to that aspect ratio wold make the image 2000x1500. If the idea is to have the character still in that corner with more space to the right but keeping the square aspect ratio then you will need to pull the camera back and move him back into the corner.

  • Now I understand.  Thanks
