Hi,

Can someone please help me figure out how to import 3rd party content into daz?

I downloaded some stuff from turbo squid, and other sites, but when i try to import it, it is either invisible or just grey with no mat options...?

I tried by downloading the obj version and then using hexagon but other than that, I am lost and I still don't know if i am doing it right.

It doesn't even seem to recognize obj.

I can't say much more as i don't fully understand why it wont work.

Please help!

THANKS :)

If you have just a plain OBJ, with no MTL and no texture files then it is quite possible it hasn't even been UV mapped.

Most imported Object files in DAZ Studio will load in grey even if they should read a material file on import. This can be caused by bad path names in the file itself. If the item comes with textures you have the option, if you wish to do so, of adding those files to a Texture folder inside the DAZ Studio content folder by hand, then you can Import the object file and open the Surfaces Tab. The item texture zone can then be loaded by hand from your folder you just made for them with the Surfaces Browse feature. Once you have loaded all the textures back on the object you have many options.
Option 1: Select the full Items surfaces and do Save As> Materials Preset. This can then be used on the item on every Import.
Option 2: Select the Item in the Scene Tab once it is textured and do Save As>Support Asset>Prop/Figure Asset, this when done will save a full textured Prop that you can just load from your content like all other items. No more importing and texturing to use the item whenever you wish to use it.

Thank you for responding. I did wonder that, then rechecked the descriptions for several things I downloaded. A few were not uv mapped but most were but still not showing.
Then when asking to import objects they just wouldn't show up in the scene at all and appeared invisible.

When Items load invisible check the Surfaces Tab and see if Opacity is set to full on.

Also, when you import an .obj into DAZ Studio, you should be given a dialog box asking what scale you want to import at. It is possible you are importing the object either very tiny or very huge and so it is not showing up in the preview window.

So if I import it in I then need to go to Daz library and add the materials and textures in a folder. Then open up surfaces and browse and find it there?

Perhaps as it's been set and stayed at 100%

You will not find it there.

What I mean, take the Textures that come with the Object file, if they come in jpg or png type files. You then make a texture folder in your DAZ Studio content folder. I use the Material Folder as it is already there. I then put those textures in a Folder named something that reminds me of the item. Example: The prop is a Space Ship, I name the folder SpaceShip-Tex.
I then open DAZ Studio. I then Import the object. I then open the Surfaces Tab, I use Browse to load the Textures one by one to the right places on the Space Ship model.
I then Save As>Materials Preset after selecting all.
I then Save As>Support Asset>Prop/Figure Asset so I never need to do anything again. It is now a DS prop.

Texture files should be placed in a folder inside /Runtime/Textures/ of your content library, this way any preset or scene files you save of the model will have relative paths to the texture files.

All paths including Materials that as I stated are inside the Default Content folder will be Relative paths, that is how NONE poser content is created for DAZ Studio. There is no Need to use a Poser Runtime folder path unless the item will be for both formats. DAZ Studio only content can be fully built from any folders Above the Runtime (poser format) but within the Main Content folder itself.
