Locking hands to a fixed point?

Is there a way to lock hands on a fixed point? I'm trying to make an animation of someone pushing against a door. I want their hands to stay in place while there forearms and shoulder move. Is there an easy way to do it or do a just have to go frame by frame the long way?

I don't know if this would work, but here is my take:

Start with the frame where the hands get in contact with the door.

Select  R Hand and create an IK Chain. Select  L Hand and create an IK Chain.

Create a Null and position it between the hands and on the door surface (place it the best you can but NASA precision is not necessary).

Parent both IK chains to the Null.

Now, parent the Null to the door.

In theory, if the door moves, it should drag the Null with it which in turn should make the hands follow, ie stay in contact with the door without affecting the rest of the body exept the forearms and arms...

Of course, this can only work if the joints are not forced past their limits...

  • I'm going to try that, thank you very much! Even if it doesn't work I'll have learned something new.

V3Digitimes Pose Master product does this, I think, but only works for G3 and G8
