What am I doing wrong?

Iray render, quad HD with firefly filter on.

only lighting is Orestes sky hdri

I'm using a 1080p monitor and initially tried rendering at 4k. I brought this down thinking that might be the issue, but it's just the same.

Are there any objects there? What happens if you render with Draw Dome off in Render Settings?

Draw Dome off does exactly the same.

The only objects are the black metal posts.

Looking like it's something to do with the camera. This is with Depth of Field turned off.

I think it's the depth of field on the highights on the bollards not converging. Sorry, I thought the background was an HDR rather than a model. try doing spot renders to a new window over just those areas (then save as PNG or Tiff and layer on top of the main render), or up the Render Quality (so that ti gives everything more iterations and so perhaps gets those spots more converged).

I didn't think of the background being hdr. I thought it was just a regular back drop. Definiatley not a model.

I have sort of got around it. I've used a softer dome and lit the model. She's lost a bit of the natural look, but not too bad.

    Thanks for the help.

how long/hopw many iterations did you let the render go for. That looks like a very early stage of the render.

Those are very early. But the effect was the same and not getting better after well over 1000.

I've had this sort of thing happen, as well.  Check to see if the glossy colour effect on the bollards is set to "Scatter & Transmit".  If it is, try changing it to just "Scatter".

It was set to scatter only.
