Really confused on how content is organized

Hello,

I tested DAZ3D at a friend's house and decided to create my own account and possibly purchase new content for my own program. However, one thing I noticed is that there wasn't a lot of organization with his items. This may be his fault but some content could easily be located in the "smart content" tab while he had to browse through his content library to locate other outfits, hairstyles, figures, and any type of pose entirely.

Are not all files going to be shown in the smart content tab or is this because he may have installed some content wrong? I read in a sticky'd thread that you're supposed to install content to a completely different folder path than what he was installing his items to, which was his Program Files (x86)\DAZ\Studio\Content directory if I remember correctly. I think some of his products were also purchased from merchants on other websites and he had to install those manually without the usage of an installer.

Even watching one tutorial video on YouTube where the video uploader states that sometimes you have to dig through folders to find something you want, it seemed like a tedious process if you don't know where it is going to go. Is this how the program is designed or is there an easy way to keep everything accessible in one location?

Not all content is Smart Content. Only content that has a Metadata file will show in the Smart Content Tab. All other content will only list in the Content Library Tab, especially content from other sites that does not have Metadata.
New content from DAZ 3D will have Metadata created before it is released to the store to be sold. The people at DAZ 3D are adding Metadata to the older content products as they can. It will take some time before all content will be Smart content.

It's fairly easy to create your own metadata for content once you're familiar with Daz Studio. I've actually written a tutorial (link in signature) to add older items to the Smart Content tab. Most newer items will include metadata, but as the Smart Content has only been around for a few years, much of the earlier content was never designed to use the system.

They've been adding metadata to a ton of older content though, so the gap is thinning. Until then, you can add them manually with ease.

    Thanks for the fast responses.

I understand now in regards to how smart content works; there is probably a tutorial in-program that also explains it as well so I appreciate the friendliness. But what about my friend's typical installation process? I know you're supposed to install content elsewhere according to many tutorials, but by him doing it the way that he has been, does that increase the chances of experiencing any type of failure with purchased content? I think he was probably wondering it as well and what the easiest step would be to transfering the items to the proper folder should it be considered a bad idea.

    Herald-
Thanks for the link and info about creating smart content for items that lack it. I've been struggling with the same issues, finding it awkward to hunt for things that lack metadata.
You seem to touch on the following question, but I'll ask it anyway:

This process seems like a good idea for products acquired from other sources, but...If I create metadata for an older DAZ item which is later updated by your tech wizards, will it cause a conflict? Is it safer for me to cross my fingers and wait?
