Saving multiple items as one prop ?

Hi,

My situation is as follows:
I have a room with 4 UALs as lighting devices. They are all parented under the room asset. Up to now I can save one UAL as a prop for the room. And when I place the room in a randow location with a random orientation in the scene, I can apply the stored (UAL)prop and it is automatically positioned in the correct place relatively to the room.

That far that good. :cheese:

But now I want to save all (4) UALs at one time as only the one lighting prop for my room with the same behaviour. And the menu entry suggests it ("Fille" -> "Save As" -> "Support Asset" -> "Figure/Prop Assets..."). Please notice the plural in the menu entry!

So I selected all 4 and did.
....
But when clicking on the corresponding prop entry in my content only one UAL is inserted. >:(
OK, at the correct place of the first one. But nothing else.

So please, how to save all 4 together as a prop?

Thanks,
Andy

Have you Tried making the 4 UAL's (what ever UAL means) one Group either by Creating a new Group or using A Null and then saving?

You don't need, or want, to save multiple items as an asset - they are all the same, save one as an asset (if it isn't already) and then save a scene subset with the four lights. that will reference that asset

UAL? let me try. Uber Environment Ambient Light?
Options as suggested are create a Group and Parent it.
Create a Null Parent to the Null and parent it.
Save as a Scene Sub set
And maybe even save as a Light Preset.

    Hi,

    at first:
UAL is the Über Area Light (plane) from omnifreaker and part of the base DAZ installation.

    So now:
I tried to create a group.
As a result the "save as prop" only saved the group-item itself - of cause without any of its children (or parented items - as it is worded in DAZ).

If I save the UALs as a scene subset, of cause I get all 4 on loading it again. But not in their position related to the parent room item.
Saving / loading them as a scene subset results in restoring them in that position, they were as I saved the scene subset.

But I want (and succeeded with a single prop item) have them appear in the correct position within the parent item, independant where in my scene I placed one instance of the item.

So some days before I had a room and positioned an UberAreaLight in that room (parented to the room asset). Next I saved that UAL as a prop. Now I inserted several rooms in different positions and orientations in a new scene.
When I selected one of the rooms and applied the UAL-prop to that room, it appeared in its correct position. Same for all other rooms.

Now the question is if this mechanism can work for multiple items, as feigned by the plural in the menu entry's title.

(“Fille” -> “Save As” -> “Support Asset” -> “Figure/Prop Assets…”). Please notice the plural in the menu entry!

If, as I suspect, it's an uberArea light sphere or the like then a light preset won't work, since it's a surface shader.

Try parenting the items to the room, then save a wearables preset - that should work for parented props, such as the planes, as well as for fitted clothing.

Are you Selecting all four UAL's at the time you save? And as Noted before they will still not be in the correct place unless parented first.
For what you are trying the Room and its Lighting all need to load as a single item with one main controller as in all parented and ALL saved as a Prop asset Not just the lights. The Room and the Lights need to be a single Group that loads and All moves as a group. Not different parts saved as different parts.

    Hi Jade,

I did already exactly as you described. --> No success.

    Richard:
Thank you. That's the way it works. Lights as wearable. Why not. :smirk:
