First time poster here, I'm looking for some helpful critiques regarding this render I recently made

Hello,

I'm in the process of making a few "on the couch"/"watching TV" couple poses that I hope to release soon, but first, I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on a render I had recently made with my first trial set of poses.

The figures used are Genesis 8 Male and Female.

I titled this first one "Watching Cartoons With Vee".

I am struggling a bit with the lighting, as well as pose realism (I'm rendering a second test as I type this and I'll show you guys later), and I would really appreciate some pointers. Feel free to nitpick and tear apart the scene without mercy! I need all the help I can get.

the posing looks very nice, you need to work out the lights some more, it's overall rather dark

The scene has potential. The couple's pose has a sweet intimacy, that can be fine tuned,  the expressions on the male face needs a hint of joy or relaxation. Either have him looking at her or the Tv   though it does look like he might be reacting to her hand at his ear.  Then you might want a moreshocked expression. The title you suggest is watching cartoons,  so that would suggest a TV,  and generally the blue hue light from where the tv screen would be should help illuminate the scene a bit.

Your drapes are rather opaque, and if they were blinds or something else you could have some exterior lights influencing the scene,  but even with opaque curtain there is a little light bleed from the other side along the edge.  It's a small detail but can help the overall look of an image. A small light pointed down from the ceiling could help illuminate the couple an make them stand out from the muted greys of the couch. Adding a table lamp could also help. 

If she is playing with his ear,  a mischivious look on her face and sideward glance might draw the attention.  Composition wise, if you follow the thirds rule, and shift them left of frame you might be able to add the edge of the TV at the right side and improve the overall balance of the image. .

Little things are all I can suggest in addition to what has been mentioned so far.

Cushion, seems to be resting inside his leg.

His shoulders seem very tense, square and horizontal. In that situation I'd expect my shoulders to droop & move forwards a bit when relaxed and curve/twist my spine somewhat to fit the shape of the lass behind. Would be tempted to twist his neck a bit & reduce the right direction movement of his eyeballs to. Not a lot of changes, but they might add a little to the good basic pose you have already.

Oh, and the cat. He's not there at all, seems to have run off. Bring him back & drape him somewhere over the chair back to look snootily down on them, or drape him inconveniently on top of the heap - our cats are always doing that.

Okay! I'll keep that all in mind, thank you. But a few clarifications: Her hand/left arm is resting on the top of the sofa behind him, but it looks like she's playing with his ear due to perspective. And the room scene/prop was bought as a package, and while a lot of the props/items that came with it such as the couch/pillows/tv and so on came with it and can be edited, the walls/curtains cannot (at least from what I've seen)

And believe it or not, there is a single spotlight in this scene, coming from the direction of the TV, (which gives a Vee a bit of a shadow on the wall behind her), but it still brightens the whole room, no matter how low I set the intensity or decrease the spotlight diameter.  I've got to figure that out.

 

But I also have these other renders with some different female figures (i only have one g8m character lol). Could I get your guys' opinion on them?

The posing on this image of them passed out looks very natural. You might want to consider a different camera angle. Could totally see that happening after a long day.
