Placement of content by DIM

First of all, this was intended to be a comment added to an existing thread that I found in the Members Only Forum. It was an issue from ~ 1 year ago. I thought it would be better to continue a similar topic, rather than start a new one, but it doesn't seem to have registered as a new post. My message Is showing up in the thread, but the icon does not indicate that there's a new post, so I'm assuming it won't catch the attention of any monitors. Is this correct?

My situation is similar to Rupa’s final comment…husband and wife wanting to use the same computer, each having a separate DAZ account. It is simpler to have a single content file, but there’s been one odd problem using DIM to download from both accounts.
First, I downloaded “his” stuff.
When I started to download “mine”, the DIM did a perfect job of preventing duplicates (it just didn’t show them in the ready-to-download-file), but it didn’t organize the new items in the usual way. For example, I have a lot of animal packages. Most of them only show up on the right hand side of the screen, in the content library, not on the left hand side, where they are MUCH easier to use. In the content library, the images are very small and are listed alphabetically. I must remember the precise title of the package. Is there a way to shift them around, so they show up in the preferred style?

Also, I just realized that everything has been changed on my laptop, which only has my account loaded. Things that I just acquired today are in the preferred location, on the left side, but EVERYTHING that I downloaded in the past has been thrown into the despised Content Library. What gives??? How can I change this and why the heck did it happen??

Thanks in advance.

Older content, many animals for example, do not have Metadata files. It is the Metadata that makes a item Smart so it shows in the Smart Content Tab (left side most setups). Content without metadata can only be loaded from the Content Library Tab, (right side). There does not sound as if anything is wrong. DAZ 3D is adding metadata to the content, but the log of store files is huge and it will be some time yet before all content will be smart.

On Your Laptop issue, did you by any chance just Upgrade to the new Version of DAZ Studio? DS4.6.3.50? If you did you may need to Re-Import your Metadata to get the Smart content that was there back. The New DAZ Studio installs a new DB and I had to do a Re-Import for my content.

    Thanks, Jaderail.
As to updating DAZ Studio- I've been a member for 3 months and have installed updates as they showed up in DIM, so I guess that's what you mean. I haven't checked to see if DS is listed as the newer version yet.

I understand your comment about the older animals lacking smart content...BUT on my laptop, EVERYTHING prior to yesterday's download has been shifted to the Content Library, including Genesis figures and other items that obviously have smart content and were in that section previously.

Does this mean that I should use DIM to uninstall each of these products, then reinstall?

Are you also saying that older figures may eventually be given smart content? If so, would this show up in the nifty updates section of DIM or would I just have to check once in a while?

You should not need to Uninstall anything. And all your content is supposed to Show in the Content Library Tab. Only Smart content may stop working as it needs the Database to work. It sounds like your Database file my have gotten errors during your last install. Have you tried to Re-Import your Metadata and see if that brings back the smart content?
And yes it means that things will get smart as time goes by and have Updates just as you have seen.

Here is the fast way to try a Re-Import of your Metadata... Your layout will look different. I have customized mine...

Thanks, as always. Obviously, lots of people are having this problem.
I was a little confused, because the import metadata screen had all of my products listed, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to pick and choose. I was afraid that it would be a lengthy download if I l were to let it go as it was.
I bit the bullet and went ahead without adjusting anything. It took less than 1 minute...and everything is cool now!

The more content you have the longer it will take. Mine takes more than a minute to read it all but Database programs fail. Rebuilding them from time to time is just a fact of life. I am not a Database fan but do use them.
