Is there a way to manually install content?

Hi. I am asking [if there is a way to manually install content] because I have had a couple of crashes in the past, and I just figured out that Daz wasn't installing my content where I thought it was(It has been putting it on my tiny solid state C drive. It should be going on F).

Anyway, every time something like this happens, I end up having to re-download everything. As I have roughly 7,000 products in my library, that's over a weeks worth of downloading on my slow internet connection.

I'd like to be able to just move it from the old location to where it's supposed to be without hogging all of the band width( hubby isn't happy when I interfere with his WoW),

I'd appreciate any help you folks can give me with this problem, and thanks ahead of time.

Yes, most things can be manually installed - but you can also isntall normally to any location you like. What is happening with your crashes?

This is technically known as "shouldn't happen" — something else is going on here, re-downloading all your content definitely shouldn't be an "every time" thing.

How are you downloading/installing? If you're using DIM, it's possible that all your content files are still where they were installed, but the content pointers in DIM and DAZ|Studio could have been lost. Note that "and" — the two programs do not talk to each other about content locations; if you change the installation location in one program, you must also change it in the other one.

You can find all your purchases in your Product Library in your Account. Manual download buttons are there. n.b. Not all downloads are necessarily required for all products as some are Poser companion files, etc.

    Richard Haseltine:

With the crashes; with the last crash, I had built a rather large medieval city using low poly buildings. I had set up my scene and started my render(I had already done a couple with no problems). It was taking a while, and I had somewhere to be, so I left it running while I was gone. When I returned a couple hours later, it was still running. I have( had ) a fairly powerful computer, so I didn't think it should have taken that long. I let it run a while longer, and finally decided something wasn't right and stopped the render. Turns out that somehow I had fried my processor(don't know if the program actually did it, or if I did something to cause it). So replaced the processor with a newer, slightly better one, and  added a bigger hard drive(F), downloading (I thought) my content to the larger drive. So when I downloaded new content, I got a warning about low space, and figured out said content wasn't going where I thought it was, so fixed that and currently downloading again (sigh). judging by the responses, I don't think I was articulating my question well. I suppose what I should have asked is, how do I tell Daz where to find my content if I move it myself to the folder where I want my stuff to download to from here on ?

Edit>Preferences (or Daz Studio>Preferences for a Mac), go to the Content tab, and click Content Directory Manager. You can then Add a new folder or highllight an existing folder that you've moved and click the Edit button - you want the folder that contaisn the Data and Runtime folders.

I think there's a confusion of terms here. You're saying just "downloading", but what DAZ|Studio (or DIM) is doing is "downloading then installing" — the two processes need two defined locations. You might have defined a non-C: drive for downloading, but have you defined that same drive for D|S to look for installed content?

I thought we had, but I was apparently mistaken. And downloading AND installing; sorry, my mistake. I just assumed that everyone would understand that as a given, but you are correct, there are no mindreaders here.

Thanks Richard. Going to be busy this afternoon, but will attempt it later on this evening. Will let you know if I'm succesful or if I screw it up(not the most computer literate person on the planet LOL).

It seems for the most part to have worked. There are still a few items coming up as missing in my dson files, but the program sees them, because it asks if I want it to download them, so no big problems as yet. Thanks a lot folks, I really appreciate the help.
