serious issues with installing content

I am new to Daz even though I purchased it years ago now before it was free but due to the incredible convoluted nature elf this thing and my busy schedule I have never actually been able to use it.
I decided to give it another shot while on a break from work and thus my posting here. I do not know what to do other then just delete this stuff from my machine and never look back, but I did spend quite a bit and would like to use it…
Here is the deal
I have dl the newest version 4.6 and the Install manager. So far so good until I started to install content. at first it went well the genesis stuff was there and even victoria 5 and michael 5 . The trouble began when I installed victoria 4. Th icons didn't show up and even when trying to load from the content library product folder it failed. So i figured maybe there was an issue with the install, I read on here some info about possible issues with older content and the new install manager. I attempted to install to an external drive which I will need to do anyway for sake of space on HD but this only made things worse. I have sense removed that pathway from the DIM multiple times but it keeps asking for it and screwing up the install.
I then uninstalled all the content from the manager but this still left the icons on my interface, they don't work of course but they are still there anyway.
I then decided to remove Daz completely and start over. That was about 4 removals and installs ago. I seriously do not know what the deal is with this program. It will not install cleanly, no matter what I do, I have even purchased a program specifically to clean it out mac keeper with the intelligent un installer but it doesn't seem to matter.
I remove program Daz 4.6 and the DIM, search for it find nothing,
then when I reinstall either the old fashioned way or with the Install manager it comes in with all of the broken icons from the previous install and compounding errors.
It claims it cannot open victoria 5 and 4 because the files don't exist even though I just installed them to the standard recommend area and I can see them in the content tree. I have even gotten a character from V called gabby for V5 and Tori V5 to open when the main V5 refuses to do so because the files supposedly don't exist.
I apologize for the rambling, and for my lack of in depth knowledge her but this is really quite frustrating.
i am attaching some screen grabs to illustrate a bit of what I am describing. excuse the handwriting...
Bottom line I would like to fix this if possible any help greatly appreciated
It seems to me there has to be a way of completely starting over but so far thats is not the case...
Forgot to add mac Pro Tower 2X 2.66 GHZ 6 core, OSX 10.8.5, 24gb ram,
not sure if that matters

Uninstalling and reinstalling won't change settings etc. I suspect you have two issues - first, if this was the same machine as you previous installs then installing DS won't have added the \My DAZ 3d Library folder in Public Documents as a content directory; secondly, although uninstalling should have removed entries for the content from the Content Management Service it appears that may not have happened - you need to reset and reimport metadata to get rid of the bad references and, hopefully, to add in the correct references but we need to get the paths right first.
The missing file is the start-up scene - again, that's a setting that won't be removed by uninstalling and reinstalling, you need to go to Edit>Preferences>Startup, and possibly Edit>Preferences>Scene, to change or remove the file that is automatically loaded.
Is Users/Shared/My DAZ 3d Library added as a content directory in DAZ Studio? Edit>Preferences>Content Library, click the Content Directory Manager.
First, if you look the Content Library Pane, are they there?
Second, if you go to the Content Directory Manager, what folders have you configured there and how well do that conform to where things are installed now?
Morning guys, thanks for your quick response
Richard
1. This is the same machine, I had a previous version of Daz installed not used again like I said before but it was there. It seemed to function at least I could see the content that was installed…
2. " DS won’t have added the \My DAZ 3d Library folder in Public Documents as a content directory; " I attached a grab, Think it did put one there unless I am misunderstanding…
3. " should have removed entries for the content from the Content Management Service " If so then the errors make sense how can I completely wipe it clean? Or is there another way?
4." you need to go to Edit>Preferences>Startup, and possibly Edit>Preferences>Scene, to change or remove the file that is automatically loaded." I think on the mac you get this from the under Daz studio/ preference but anyway I have included a pic of that as well. It seems to not be loading any image currently…
5. " Is Users/Shared/My DAZ 3d Library added as a content directory in DAZ Studio? Edit>Preferences>Content Library, click the Content Directory Manager. " I don't even see where to click the CDM?
Totte
if you look the Content Library Pane, are they there?
I can see icon frames here but there are no images in them and when you try to launch them most give an error, file not found, doesn't exist etc…
what folders have you configured there and how well do that conform to where things are installed now?
If by configure yo mean custom organization then none, haven't gotten pas the install...
Thank you both for your help :)

Check the image in the first post in the Mac FAQ thread here for information on setting up paths for DS/DIM.
Sorry, don't have time for longer response...
@Richard, Totte... notice the full UI and Preferences screenshots... dgood133 is using the Full Service [Beta] layout... won't have access to Content Directory Manager unless the layout is changed to something other than Full Service [Beta]; has no button in Preferences dialog, and no pane option menus when the Workflow Assistant is active... which it is in Full Service [Beta].

Thx rob (you always see the obvious)
So, go to the menu Window->Workspace->Select Layout and select another layout, for example City Limits.
okay got that… now what should di look for?
The post in the MacFAQ I linked to, how you see the directory setup for DS.
Okay now have city lints, and there are some improvements already thanks :)
still seems to be a lot of disconnected stuff and errors though
screenshots as requested...
as a note right now victoria 5 and m5 v4. will load from the content library but when you try from the smart content area still say file does not exist
Then I recommend that you go to the Content DB Maintenance and do what I have checked
Also, in the Content Directory Manager (second screenshot) please click the + symbols next to DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats to show the actual folder names - you should see, at least, /Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library there.
OK

Thats done, although don't see any difference yet, I have restarted Daz so it should have taken…

Did that I have attached more screen grabs…
interesting thing it seems from content library now in poser format tab you can see the content and it will load but not correctly see pic
Daz Studio Tab no joy
Smart contact still claiming files don't exist
Appreciate the help guys…
OK, then do Reset Database, and then Reimport Metadata.
What basically seems to be the issue is that the CMS thinks the files are located on your remote disk named "Traveller2-External" but they are located in /Uses/shared (as installed by DIM).
Your DIM is set to install to /Users/shared but the CMS still looks at where it has been told that the files are located.

Did that seems to have done much to help…
still some weirdness.
most of the actors will load but they come in in what looks like wireframe clothing as well
also still getting a message about missing files I have attached what I mean,
really appreciate your help guys

(a) Do you have the Genesis Evolution Morphs installed?
(b) What is your display options set to?
It looks like your missing the Evolutions morphs. http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-evolution-morph-bundle
Is your DIM content Path actually pointing to Users/Shared? It looks to me as if some of the content is not mapped.
EDIT: Or you just do not have the Morphs installed. Can be that too....
sorry guys had to put out fire with art director…
okie display options not sure do you mean this? see image attached
I do know it was displaying correctly when I first installed but then got weird with all the other stuff...
As for the morphs and such I honestly do not know I installed with the DIM i am pretty sure it should all be there… how would I check?
again thanks for the help and your patience...
Open DIM, go to the Installed tab and scroll down to Genesis and see if you have Evolutions installed. If not then you need to purchase it for it to work
thank you sir that what it was…
(b) What is your display options set to?
How do I access the display options?
thanks
Ok found it! no more wireframe look, wish i knew how it got switched on in first place…
Thanks so much for all the help guys seriously!
I am sure I will have many more questions if you will oblige :)
Ask away -- the only time people have no questions is when they don't use it.
