Extra facets created on imported obj file

Searched through the forums and didn't find this issue discussed

When I import some obj files, extra facets are added in the texture shaded and rendered modes, making the object unusable

The facets are not in the model

The facets do not show up in wireframe

The model in the image is of a camera lens

The model was made as a NURBS model

I tried making the polygonal mesh in a couple different software, Rhino and Max, and at different setting (they look fine in those applications and between them)

For sure a Daz Studio bug

Anyone have a fix for this?

I don't think they are extras, I think it's the way soem ploygons with more than four vertices (or possibly four vertices and an indented shape) are drawn - it is, however, difficult to sort the details out from the wireframe. You could see if Edit>Object>Geometry>Triangulate helps.

interesting ... when I Triangulate, it adds those facets, so the SW must triangulate for shading, I will see if I can triangulate in other software, then I can eliminate them

    Thanks

Thanks! solved, but what a pain, to fully triangulate from Rhino I need to export as STL and then import it again so I can export as Obj

update, in Rhino there is a command to triangulate all facets

It's not something I've ever had occasion to try, but by others' accounts going from a NURBS model to a polygon model can be tricky.

After you pointed me to the requirement for triangles and finding the button in Rhino to fully triangulate, no problem
