Putting DAZ where I want it?

MidyinMidyin Posts: 221

I'm getting real tired of reinstalling DAZ. Installed it the fist time when My new PV shown up wednessday, then I had to delete everthing and reinstall it on Saturday because It wasnt letting me save my renders and kept crashing, Now I have to un install it and reinstall it again because even though I put the Download manager on my D Drive, it took the liberty of putting DAZ on my C drive, and I cant do anything because I have no disc space on that drive anymore...[/rant]

How do i make Download manager stop putting Daz on my C drive, and put it on my D drive(where it was suposed to be) this time?

It never really gives me any options, It just downloads and installs it without asking where I want it.

DIM has settings for where everything goes. You have to manually set them before downloading anything.

I would recommend starting Download Manager in "Offline" mode (there's a checkbox above the sign-on info) then you can:

    1) Uninstall anything that went to the wrong drive

    2) Go to the settings (cog wheel at the top right of DIM) and make sure the application and install locations are set to D drive locations

    3) Un-click the box that auto-installs after download initially - until you can check everything is going where you want it (you can set it back to auto later)

    4) Either restart DIM and sign-in, or click the account button at the top to force sign-in.

ETA: Are you happy for the Content database to be in its default location (probably C-drive?) If not I think it can be moved but I can't remember how (whether DIM can do it or it has to be through Daz Studio) Also the location for downloads needs to be moved to D-drive. Thumbnails and manifest files can be moved from default to D drive too if you want, but are pretty small files so don't take much space.

I want C Drive to just be exclusively for my OS...

Is this what It should look like?

Sorry for the delay replying. Those look good (at least they look pretty much like mine), but I also have this in the "Advanced Settings" -  "Applications" tab, which I'm not certain whether you need to set or not. Note that as well as Daz Studio I have Bryce, Carrara and several versions of Hexagon installed on my PC - you may only have Daz Studio.

ETA: I think they are needed if you install plug-ins which need installing in the program libraries - normal content won't need them.

I would suggest you to keep applications and contents on separate drives. At least create a separate partition on the same drive if you cannot accommodate another drive now. So that when, and if, you decide to move your contents to an external drive due to space constraints or whatever, you wouldn't have to reinstall the applications again.
