Trying to import OBJ/FBX clothing into DAZ but it won't rig properly?

Hey there, I've been working on several bajillion different characters from movies, games and tv shows I like, but I've constantly run into issues with certain models where I can't properly weight and rig outfits I've imported into DAZ to the Genesis 8 figure.
Basically what happens is that when I convert these models to a figure and transfer weights to them from the Genesis 8 figure, they either disappear completely or are very distorted in appearance. I have noticed that it might be related to me needing to rescale and reposition them after the initial import, but aside from that I can't figure out the problem on my own.

You don't need to convert to a figure first - what you do need to is have the model line up, as imported, with the base figure. If the initial item doesn't line up (which is fairly unlikelly) then adjust it (scaling, moving, and if need be using dForms etc.) until it does, export as OBJ, and reimport using the same preset to bake the modifications, then run the Transfer Utility.
