Sharing content between Daz3 & Daz4

Can two versions of Daz share the same content library, or will I need to install everything twice?
I understand many users have files that will not work in newer versions of Daz and sometimes have to fall back on an earlier version and then import the scene back into the new version?

I've been a long time user of Daz3, but now have a fast enough PC to handle Daz4 without crashing, so I've installed both versions just in case!

Thanks in advance for any handy tips that will help my transition!

I have my DS 4.6.3 pointed to my DS3A content folder just fine. But if they Share content like V4 you need to be sure you load all V4 figure stuff from one folder. Thats Morphs and such not clothing and textures. Just figure stuff, they need to load from the same install folder.

So if I understand correctly. I can have one content folder with all my runtimes and point both DS3A and DS4.6 to it and everything should load just fine?
@Jaderail - seeing as it looks like you have a similar setup to me, what have you come across that won't load into DS4?

    Thanks!

Sorry it took so long but I needed sleep.

I have two full content folders and this is what I do. My old DS3A content folder has all my older hand installed content and that is all. My new DS4.6 My DAZ 3D Library is a full DIM installed folder. I point DS4.6 to both only. I do not point DS3A to the MY DAZ 3D Library as DS3A can not read most of the new file formats. This works well for my DS4 side as I have all my older content and free items to load. The Drawback is both folders hold my Gen4 figures. That can cause issues. But this works. I just make sure I load the Gen 4 figures and all morphs from the New My DAZ 3D Library and that works, I can load clothing and anything else from any place just fine.

I think the Gen 4 bat files were run on install to My DAZ 3D Library with DIM so I just load from there. To be honest I rarely even Boot DS3A any more as I can do most of what I did in it in DS4 now. I do know my DS3A still loads all its content just fine so far.

That was sort of the way I was going, the only problem is my old DS3A content folder (which I haven't loaded yet from my old PC), still has a mix of Poser and Daz content. I'm not sure how I'd uninstall the Daz content from just that folder. I guess I'm probably looking at a fresh install of Poser/non-Daz runtimes.

Mine is the same, Poser & DS, I never removed a thing. It seems to work just fine.

I have both DS 3A and DS 4P installed on the same laptop. Only difference is, I only use DS 4P for Genesis, and use DS 3A for the majority of my renders.

That said, however, if I want to access any props/environments (think Stonemason or Jack Tomalin) from within DS 4P, that's not a problem, since I have both DS and Poser formats from my DS 3A runtime listed in the Content Directory Manager, along with the DS and Poser formats from my DS 4P runtime.

Correct, I have both content folders listed as both formats. No issues that I have seen.

I moved my content folder directory to an external drive (made sure DIM was installing there and that DS4 content manager was pointing there for both DAZ and Poser content), but now I'm having problems with V4s deltas. Every time I try to apply a morph I get an error because DS4 is still trying to locate the file on the default drive?

How do I get around this? Have I missed something really obvious? I haven't tried DS3A yet (which is sharing the folders) to see if I get the same problem (but I suspect I'll have the same issue there as well.

EDIT: Looks like DIM defaulted back to the root drive at some point, so I just reinstalled everything. Hopefully that has fixed it.

Fixed one problem, created another. Now I have multiple thumbs for some files and other files (the ones that came with DS4) are now missing completely! I am now also missing V4 elite morphs, even though I had them on my old copy of DS3.

I may well end up going that route too. I'm not enjoying DS4 thus far.
